America Eats Its Young - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The song is, essentially, about lust and its tremendous power over the singer, who is incapable of resisting his (perhaps former) lover.
Its songwriters are George Clinton and Fuzzy Haskins.
In Miss Lucifer's Love, the singer describes his love for "Miss Lucifer." Although she is referred to as "the devil," Miss Lucifer is not necessarily Satan (see Lucifer) as certain critics (predominantly Christian fundamentalists) have argued.

Leave it to Neil Young to promote his battered but still vital sense of idealism by producing what has often been the bane of too many major and minor rock acts since the late 1960s.
The 10-song album is, in Young's words, a "musical novel" that is also scheduled to be released as a DVD movie in which he appears only in a cameo as Vegas lizard king Wayne Newton.
That said, the 78-minute-long "Greendale" must ultimately be judged on the basis of its musical content, not the surrounding accouterments (which for the ongoing "Greendale" tour include a not-ready-for-prime-time cast of lip-syncing singers, actors and quasi-dancers).

And though it's tempting to launch an essay on the racism of rock radio-- or rock journalism for that matter-- I'll stick to the band.
Compared to the debut, it's a lot more "rock" and a little less "soul." The opening track "Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow" was like a Sly Stone jam gone haywire, with fuzzed out guitar and bass, distorto-organ, and spoken, chanted or otherwise freaked vox appearing all over the mix.
However, it's hard to hear "We Hurt Too" (a maudlin ballad about the hidden tenderness of men) as anything but a joke, and the title track, similar to Maggot Brain's title cut, is a bit heavy on the huffing and panting.

A constantly shifting cast of backing musicians characterized the group in its later years, culminating in a disbandment that led to the creation of the P-Funk All-Stars, a conglomeration of contributing musicians that continues to tour and record.
America Eats Its Young does to the music of fl America what The Beatles White Album did to the popular music of white westerners -- that is to say it devours it whole and regurgitates it back as a virtual catalog of styles and sounds.
While practically all of Funkadelic and Parliament's albums are essential listening, America Eats Its Young is in a class of its own as one of the boldest experiments in the history of funk.

America's debut album is a classic case of being in the right place at the right time--a world where the noisier sounds of '60s rock had given way to the gentler strains of James Taylor and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
