  American Austin Car Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
American Bantam's 1938 model is famous for being the inspiration for Donald Duck's car.
American Bantam also pioneered the design for the first jeep, called the BRC (Bantam Reconnaissance Car) 40, and built 1,500 of these after discontinuing the manufacture of passenger vehicles.
Some of the motors and chasisses were imported from the UK Austin; the bodies were made at the American Austin factories in Detroit, Michigan and Butler, Pennsylvania.

By 1870 Austin's 1,615 fl residents composed 36 percent of the 4,428 inhabitants.
These new dams brought great benefits to Austin: cheap hydroelectric power, the end of flooding, a plentiful supply of water without which the city's later growth would have been unlikely, and recreation on the Highland Lakes that enhanced Austin's appeal as a place to live.

The American remained the morning paper and the Statesman an afternoon paper, but the Sunday morning issue of the American was renamed the Sunday American-Statesman.

The American Austin was a United States version of the Austin Seven automobile manufactured by the American Austin Car Company from 1930 to 1937.
Somewhat more than 8000 cars were sold during the company's first year of sales, but sales fell off to the point that production was suspended from 1934 to 1937.
That year the car reappeared, redesigned (by Alexis de Sakhnoffski) and rechristened the American Bantam.

A campus group critical of military actions supervised by Powell in the 1991 Gulf War confined its protest to the front patio of Bass Concert Hall, and a spirited but civil exchange between Powell and a doctoral student occurred at an earlier gathering elsewhere on the UT campus.
He found himself daydreaming about bombing the hotel where American reporters were broadcasting events in real time to the world, Powell said.
That group of 250 or so, picked by raffle, included at least two students who in the question-and-answer session brought up an independent group's conclusion shortly after the Gulf War that Powell and other American leaders were "war criminals" for actions taken in the conflict.

The Central Texas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union condemned the use of Tasers by the department in a Tuesday afternoon protest by a handful of people at police headquarters.
Since 1998, all but one of the 14 people who died while or after Austin police officers used force on them were minorities.

The Austin City Council heard a report Oct. 27, 2005, on recomendations of the African American Quality of Life Project Implementation Team, developed through facilitated community discussions between April and October 2005.
The presentation, was the culmination of more than four months of work by the City/community teams in response to six -Quality of Life Forums- that outlined disparities in several key areas between African Americans and others in Austin.
In June, several community organizations including the NAACP, the Austin Area Urban League, the Capital City African American Chamber of Commerce, the Austin Revitalization Authority, the African American Health Alliance and ProArts Collective presented a community position paper to Council, outlining 58 community recommendations designed to improve quality of life for African Americans.
