American Comics Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
American Comics Group (ACG) was a small publisher during the Golden and Silver Age of comic books that published several well-remembered characters and titles.
ACG would create other super-heroes in 1965 like Magicman starting in Forbidden Worlds #125, Nemesis in Adventures into the Unknown (starting with #154) and John Force, Magic Agent in his own title in 1962, then later in Unknown Worlds.
ACG was owned by family members who also owned part of DC Comics, and ACG was distributed by Independent News Co, which also distributed DC.

 Suspended Animation by Michael Vance
The premiere and most extensive history of one comic book publisher ever written, reflecting the reading habits of millions of people of all ages during the seminal Golden and Silver Ages of Comics, 1938 to 1970.
Forbidden Adventures also dispels some long lived myths about EC Comics and their (in)famous terror titles, while shedding light on the early history of the most popular art form in the world.
Never the largest publisher, ACG was nevertheless a microcosm of the industry, publishing titles in every major comics genre.

 Comics From the Golden Age
Starting with that box of old "Dell" Disney comics at Grandma's house when I was a kid in the 1960's, I've been a reader and collector of comic books for pretty much my entire life.
At this stage of my life I'm not particularly interested in reading these comics, rather I'm more interested in appreciating the lurid artistic appeal of the covers and the overall nostalgic aura of the books (and, as I tell my wife, maintaining them as a non-401K investment).
I will be presenting these comics here, as I acquire them, as a reference to others who might be similarly interested in a wide variety of wonderful old comics.

The HERBIE series was one of a handful of odd little titles published during the early and mid-60's by the (now defunct) American Comics Group; an outfit specializing in science fiction and horror "anthology" titles, for the most part.
HERBIE enjoyed the monthly devotions of a fanatically loyal readership (of which number Your Narrator, I assure you,was amply proud to be counted) for many a year, during the greater portion of the 60's, outlasting any number of the more "serious" offerings from the American Comics Group.
Changing fannish tastes and sentiments, alas, finally succeeded in accomplishing what any number of befuddled alien despots or slow-witted other-dimensional entities had failed to achieve prior, however: with the advent of the "Marvel Age" style of Heavy Angst and Total Seriousness during the latter part of the decade...
