 American Dad
Dad was a farmer and a businessman, a civic leader, and a parish advisor.
Dad told me, don’t worry too much about it, the world has been going to Hell all my life and we haven’t arrived there yet.
He had little education, but he was well read; he could recite poetry and Shakespeare and recount the histories of American innovators and entrepreneurs, whom he greatly admired.

HeadlinePlanet.com News :: EXCLUSIVE REVIEW: American Dad's Series Premiere - HeadlinePlanet Reviews The Pilot
As far as American Dad is concerned, a situation is not established, the characters are not established.
Essentially, American Dad utilizes the same format (although the cutaways are much more infrequent), but the new series falls far, far short of one of the greatest animated television shows in history.
While there was a solid method to the Family Guy madness, American Dad is fueled purely by a desire to bombard the audience with jokes, few of which stick.

This was itself a parody of other TV shows' plots, but American Dad took the parody to the next level by having Stan's boss use that same deus ex machina as a lame lie--and Haley was quite sarcastic about how lame an idea it was.

American Dad! - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Even Seth MacFarlane himself (when questioned on The Late Show with David Letterman about how American Dad differed from Family Guy) remarked, "It's the same show." The nuclear family concept in both series is strongly conceived.
This was referenced in The Simpsons episode "The Italian Bob", in which a picture of Peter Griffin was shown below the charge "PLAGIARISMO," and Stan Smith then shown beneath the legend "PLAGIARISMO DEL PLAGIARISMO."
Since Family Guy is frequently regarded as rather derivative of The Simpsons, it follows that Amerian Dad is similarly derivative of The Simpsons.

American Dad's most successful jokes come out of the Family Guy playbook in the form of that show's famous non-sequiturs.
