Although the terms “electrical” and “electronicsengineering often are used interchangeably in academia and industry, electrical engineers have traditionally focused on the generation and supply of power, whereas electronics engineers have worked on applications of electricity to control systems or signal processing.
Engineering technology graduates, however, are not qualified to register as professional engineers under the same terms as graduates with degrees in engineering.
Employment of electrical engineers is expected to increase about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2014.

When an engineer or manufacturer builds apparatus from designs supplied to him by a customer, the designs remain the property of the customer and should not be duplicated by the engineer or manufacturer for others without express permission.
Any engineering data or information which an engineer obtains from his client or employer, or which he creates as a result of such information, may be considered confidential by the engineer; and while he is justified in using such data or information in his own practice as forming part of his professional experience.
Insignia of the Institute, that is, any symbol such as an imprint of the hadge design, or a heading such as "American Institute of Electrical Engineers," should be used only for Institute business and publications.

Smart Computing Encyclopedia Entry - Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-22)
IEEE (www.ieee.org), pronounced “eye triple e,” is an international, professional society dedicated to promoting the engineering processes of creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge.
In the early 1880s, significant interest in electrical technology, including increasingly widespread use of telegraph wires, arc lights, incandescent lamps, and the telephone, resulted in the International Electrical Exhibition at Philadelphia in 1884.
The same interest in emerging technology, as well as a desire not to be outdone by non-U.S. engineers, researchers, and manufacturers, led to the formation of the AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers).

Annual Dinner of the AIEE in honor of Guglielmo Marconi (1902)
My colleagues in the electrical profession well know, and in other professions too, that it is difficult enough to push a new thing when it is practically unimpeded, and that it becomes almost an impossibility when you have got to face injunctions and threatened injunctions.
And still the whole art of electrical engineering, the whole science of electricity, is built upon the interaction between the ether and ordinary matter, as we call it.
It is, perhaps, on that account, also, that there is no particular class of men making the study of electrical waves a particular work of their own; that the subject of electrical waves is perhaps less understood than any other study in physics and electrical engineering.
