Topic: American School of Economics

School - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A school might be simply an outdoor meeting spot where one teacher comes to instruct a few students, or, alternatively, a large campus consisting of hundreds of buildings and tens of thousands of students and educators.
This led to the term grammar school which in the United States is used informally to refer to a primary school but in the United Kingdom means a school that selects entrants on their ability or aptitude.
Schools and schoolchildren are frequently portrayed in fiction and the media, ranging from Harry Potter and Grange Hill to Battle Royale.

American School (economics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The American School of capitalism was intended to allow the United States to become economically independent and nationally self-sufficient and is distinct from the Free Market form of capitalism of Adam Smith, the internationalist Socialism of Karl Marx and the comprehensive Planned Economy associated with the Soviet Union.
Macroeconomic is the economics sub-field of study that considers aggregate behavior, and the study of the sum of individual economic decisions.
Supply-side economics is a school of macroeconomic thought which emphasizes the "supply" part of "supply and demand." The central concept of supply-side economics is Say's Law: "supply creates its own demand," or the idea that one must produce before one has the means to buy.

Ana Maria Bianchi, "Concern with Policy-Relevance in the Latin American School of Economics", Post-Autistic ...
The main thesis advocated by the Latin American School was that the “peripheral” countries, which specialized in exporting raw materials and primary products in general to the “central” industrialized countries, suffered from a longterm decline in their terms of trade.
The balance of payments deficits were detrimental to Latin American´s economic growth, as receipts deriving from exportations did not create the import capacity needed to provide the region with the capital goods that it required to develop its industrial sector.
From the viewpoint of the periphery, conventional economics suffered from a “false sense of universality”, as its general laws did not apply to the world economy as a whole.

 John_Kenneth_Galbraith
Although he is a former president of the American Economic Association, Galbraith is considered something of an iconoclast by many economists because he eschews mathematical modeling in favor of non-technical political economy.
In 1949, Galbraith was appointed professor of economics at Harvard University.
A third related work was Economics and the Public Purpose (1973), in which he expanded on these themes by discussing, among other issues, the subservient role of women in the unrewarded management of ever-greater consumption, and the role of the technostructure in the large firm in influencing perceptions of sound economic policy aims.

 THE CHICAGO SCHOOL
Its initial economics department, under the leadership of the American apologist, J. Laurence Laughlin, counted radical American Institutionalists such as Thorstein Veblen, Wesley Mitchell and John Maurice Clark among its faculty.
In an age when empiricism ruled most of American economics, Knight and Viner set up the economics department at Chicago as a bastion of counter-institutionalism and, as such, the department soon acquired something of a "siege" mentality.
Economic history were given a Neoclassical reading by Robert W. Fogel and Douglas C. North, while the Chicago Law School (esp. Richard Posner and William M. Landes) used economics to rethink swathes of legal theory.

Policy-Relevance in the Latin American School of Economics
Pluralism as a default implies that alternative economic work is not simply tolerated, but that the material and social conditions for its flourishing are met, to the same extent as is currently the case for mainstream economics.
