Charles Burton, professor of architectural engineering and construction science, John Lewis-Smith, assistant professor of architectural engineering and construction science, and Tim Tredway, associate professor of architectural engineering and construction science, helped put together the exam, cooperating with the Architectural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The American Society of Agricultural Engineers Foundation awards this $1,000 national scholarship annually to an outstanding student who has completed at least one year of undergraduate study, with an emphasis in soil and water engineering, and who has at least one year of undergraduate study remaining.
The award is presented to one outstanding member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in the Mid-Central region of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Jay Brownlee Davidson was head of the agricultural engineering departments of the University of California (1915-1919) and Iowa State University (1905-1915, 1919-1946).
One of the organizers and first president (1907) of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, he served as a consultant on agricultural mechanization on missions to the Soviet Union (1929-1930) and to China (1947-1949).
Norval J. Wardle received a B.S. in agriculture from the University of Idaho in 1937, an M.S. from Idaho in 1946, and a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering from Iowa State University in 1949.

 Evaluation of Agricultural Best Management Practices (I)
This study was conducted in cooperation with the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Departments of Agricultural Engineering and Agronomy and the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station.
Research is needed to define mechanisms of chemical and sediment loss in runoff from agricultural land, and to develop management practices that minimize transport of these pollutants.
To more reliably evaluate the biological response of a water body to agricultural P inputs, particularly from conservation tillage practices, it may be necessary to determine BAP in runoff.

Calvin B. Parnell, an agricultural engineering professor, is the 1999 recipient of the G.B. Gunlogson Countryside Engineering Award from the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE).
