American Tribal Style Belly Dance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tribal Style Belly Dance or American Tribal Style Belly Dance (commonly knows as ATS) is a recent movement in the USA that has addressed the feminist philosophy of empowerment of women through belly dance.
The general category Tribal Style is accredited to Jamila Salimpour who fostered a fusion of folkloric dances styles from the Middle East and North Africa and began teaching what she knew and performing all over California and the West Coast.
Tribal Style dancers (like Raqs Sharqi dancers) often use finger cymbals, but the focus is on the group as opposed to emphasizing solo performance.

 Ballroom: Internationl vs American style
Historically, American style ballroom (called Smooth) was developing on the west side of the Atlantic during the same period as English style ballroom (called Modern) was developing near the east side of the Atlantic.
American style features open work, under-arm turns, open extended lines, etc., while International style requires a close proximity of the partners at all times, and hence can use the concept of a "common center" which allows for a three- dimensional body action in unison that does not quite work for American style.
American Style also includes the Samba, although it's been noted many many times that the Samba is probably the dance with the least amount of differences between AS and IS. In fact, it's been observed that the dance is EXACTLY the same in both styles.

Love, American Style was an hour-long television anthology which originally aired between September 1969 and January 1974.
For the 1971 and 1972 seasons it was a part of an ABC Friday prime-time lineup that included Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Room 222, and The Odd Couple.
The movie The Running Man featured a future television studio as part of the set, where posters heralding "Death, American Style" were meant to reflect the cruel, twisted future.

 Imperialism, American-style
While "American Imperialism" has been a catchphrase on the left for a long time, people on other parts of the political spectrum are only now beginning to accept the idea that we have entered the age of the American Empire.
Americans may not have thought of the World Trade Center or the Pentagon as the symbolic headquarters of a world empire, but the men with the box cutters certainly did, and so do numberless millions who cheered their terrifying exercise in the propaganda of the deed.
American intellectuals may be tempted to watch in resigned fascination as the greatest empire the world has ever seen lumbers toward self-destruction.

The Paranoid Style in American Politics
Style has more to do with the way in which ideas are believed than with the truth or falsity of their content.
The American Protective Association of the 1890s revived it with ideological variations more suitable to the times—the depression of 1893, for example, was alleged to be an international creation of the Catholics who began it by starting a run on the banks.
Perhaps the central situation conducive to the diffusion of the paranoid tendency is a confrontation of opposed interests which are (or are felt to be) totally irreconcilable, and thus by nature not susceptible to the normal political processes of bargain and compromise.

 Style in American Popular Culture
Indeed, for women of the first half of the twentieth century, the style of a compact was just as important as the face powder and lipstick that it housed.
Early metal models by industry leaders such as Evans and Elgin American featured ringed finger-chains or longer tango chains complete with lipstick holders; these appendages made the compact easy to carry and called for its design to be carefully considered, as the item was not tucked away in a handbag but openly exhibited.
At home, Americans were becoming exposed to the now mass-produced plastics, which were touted as modern marvels.

That is because America must at one and the same time carry out the appearance that it is the freest society in the world (true, to a degree, as Chomsky acknowledges) while tyrannizing much of the rest of the world.
Both PBS and NPR do run stories and programming critical of American policy, from time to time, but these are often drowned in a sea of talk shows with right-wing pundits, of which more anon.
PR managers, known as "spin doctors" when working in government, are able to carefully craft speeches and advertisements which evoke powerful images in the American psyche, frequently using "power words" such as freedom, fairness, liberty, justice, and peacekeeping for policies which dominate, discriminate, imprison, exploit, and terrorize much of the rest of the world.

In many ways, Love, American Style was a forerunner of the even more successful Love Boat, which featured the playlets along with a regular cast on the floating Pacific Princess.
Love, American Style also hinted at forbidden passions and the joy of sex, but each playlet ended innocently, with cleared-up misunderstandings or come-upances for the oversexed Romeos.

 Book | Assimilation, American Style
From the Reverend Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam on one side to Pat Buchanan on the other, our daily news is dominated by indications that America’s uniquely cohesive social fabric is being pulled apart from the left by multiculturalism and from the right by a resurgent nativism.
Separating Americans by ethnicity or race through bilingualism, ethnic separatism, and affirmative action, not only harms the groups it is intended to help, but also undermines such core national principles as liberty and equality.
But Salins stresses that if we are to remain truly a civil society, one which invests in individuals and not groups, then we had better return quickly to our very special form of assimilation, American style, or face the prospect of living in a radically different and much less pleasant country in the twenty-first century.

Celebrated throughout the region with special holiday cuisine and songs, much of what is eaten is greatly influenced by the foodstuffs of the different indigenous people of the region, but all delicacies share the strong Latin influence dating from the arrival of Roman Catholicism hundreds of years ago.
While the cultures’ propensity towards spicy food has become a stereotype, reinforced through a commercial push for "Latino" products such as hot sauce and salsa, it remains true that the flavor of the culture’s cuisine is influenced by hot chiles of all kinds.
In the case of conventional cuisine prepared for the celebration of holidays, such as Christmas, there are many different ways to prepare a dinner according to the areas where they are consumed.
