American Tune's modus operandi is similar to previous Cassidy CDs in its mix of standard repertoire (here, everything from "Yesterday" to "God Bless the Child" and Ray Charles's "Hallelujah I Love [Him] So" rubs shoulders) and fine, less obvious choices (Joe Simon's early-'70s soul hit "Drowning in the Sea of Love").
From her timeless reading of 'American Tune' (Paul Simon's reflections on an ever-changing America) to 'Drowning In The Sea Of Love' (a searing blues-rock take on the Joe Simon 70s hit written and produced by Gamble & Huff), this collection is filled with thrills and surprises.
Included on this album is another version of "God Bless the Child" which she did as a duet on her album with Chuck Brown titled "The Other Side".

American Pearl - Bio   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
American Pearl does rock out with the best of them--numbers such as "Automatic" (which you may remember from the closing credits of Scream 3), "Free Your Mind" and "Amphetamine Girl" are guaranteed to get pulses pounding and fists pumping.
For example, album opener "California" acts as a "heads-up" for anyone heading to a big city with even bigger dreams, expecting it to be just like the plastic fantastic images seen on the silver screen.
Indeed, American Pearl are now seasoned road veterans, having played at Woodstock '99, opened several shows for Kiss in 2000, and embarked on a club tour with Days Of The New in the latter part of that year.

American Tune - Eva Cassidy - Song Listings
The saga of Eva Cassidy, the late Washington, D.C., singer who gained fame long after her early passing from melanoma, continues vibrantly on American Tune, a collection of ten more "leftovers" that former bandmates discovered in the past year -- similarly as they did on Imagine, the previous release of great cuts.
While she never achieved much more than local recognition in her lifetime, her inspirational legacy is not only rooted in her own story of personal courage but her ability to take songs that have been heard thousands of times and make them sound fresh, exciting, even better than the original.
Based on the ongoing discovery of more tunes Cassidy no doubt never thought would see the light of day, you can only hope that there are more trunks full of tapes waiting to be mastered and released.

A strange name, to be sure, but that begs the question of why this disc is released on Athens, GA based Kindercore records.
I think the reason for this is that My Knee uses one of the few vocal samples on the album, and it is distorted and buried under the keys.
The album wraps up with There Once Was a Boy, a happy energetic track that features 80's style thumping drum beats, serious synths, and echoed voice.

Overall, the best way to listen to this album is to focus on Eva's voice and pretend that the rest of the cut is as clear and polished as the songs on Songbird.

The vocals sometimes have an indistinct and diffuse quality and can also sound a little hollow on tracks such as "Yesterday" and "American Tune." Many of the arrangements are quite simple, consisting of just one or two guitars or piano, and do not exhibit much of a soundstage.

Eva Cassidy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eva Marie Cassidy (February 2, 1963 in Washington, DC – November 2, 1996 in Bowie, Maryland) was an American vocalist described by the British newspaper The Guardian as "one of the greatest voices of her generation." She had a diverse repertoire of jazz, blues, folk, gospel and pop.
However, her posthumously released recordings have since sold in excess of four million copies, and in early 2001 the compilation album Songbird reached #1 on the UK album charts.
Cassidy was unhappy with the album and promptly began recording a studio album which was eventually released as Eva by Heart posthumously in 1997.

Song For The Asking | Simon & Garfunkel Discography
This album was fueled by the success of Bob Johnston's "electrified" mix of "The Sound Of Silence." While this heavier sound would later be put to good use by Simon and Garfunkel, this album can't escape its true self: a group of acoustic songs sloppily overdubbed and/or hurriedly recorded by Bob Dylan's band.
This was a "contractual obligation album" (a CD recorded to fill out the requirements of a recording contract, usually to end it) which was released to coincide with the 1993 Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour.
Garfunkel's first all-new studio album since Songs From A Parent To A Child, this CD features Artie teaming up with folk singer-songwriter Buddy Mondlock and pop singe-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Maia Sharp, the result being a potent mix of voices and styles that is the best Garfunkel CD since Breakaway.
