The EMI films which did have something of a British character were the lavishly budgeted and star-filled Agatha Christie adaptations Murder on the Orient Express (1974) and Death on the Nile (1978).
Many of the British films of the sixties including the Bond cycle were financed substantially by American companies attracted by the cheap production facilities and the Eady levy subsidy thus continuing the "runaway" production trend of the previous decade.
However, managerial changes in the mid-seventies meant a change of policy with the company moving towards bigger budget American originated films.

Laramie Movie Scope: Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession
Z Channel, founded in 1974 was a precursor to current cable channels like the Independent Film Channel, the Sundance Channel, American Movie Classics and others, but more eclectic than any of them.
Z Channel also created the phenomenon of director's cuts of films by restoring cut footage to films like “Heaven's Gate,” “The Leopard,” “Once Upon a Time in America” and “1900” which had been butchered by bad editing designed simply to allow the film to be shown more times each day in theaters.
Since the Z channel was watched by a number of influential Hollywood suits, including heads of studios, the channel came to have a huge influence on the industry.

Max Mallowan said that although Agatha Christie generally disliked the film adaptations she thought that Sidney Lumet’s 1974 film of Murder on the Orient Express was very well done.
Agatha Christie Ltd therefore made the decision to use the title And Then There Were None - under which this novel was actually first published in the USA in 1940, in order to avoid causing any potential offence and to maintain consistency worldwide.

Fast-selling songbooks, hit records such as “Wreck on the Highway” and "Fireball Mail," issued on Columbia Records’ OKeh imprint; mushrooming gate receipts on the road, and appearances in a series of films all boosted his income to the $200,000 mark in 1942.
His radio fame caught the attention of American Record Corporation (ARC) producer W. Calaway, who brought the band to Chicago to cut their first twenty numbers in 1936.
Other testaments to his continuing popularity were the 1974 chart-making records "Back in the Country" and "Old Time Sunshine Song," written by then Acuff-Rose singer-songwriter Eddy Raven.

1974 Mexican film 'Chac' a visual banquet
As far as I know, it's never played Seattle before, and it's somehow fallen through the cracks of movie history, but it's an extraordinarily well-made and absorbing mystical adventure, and one of the most sumptuously photographed Latin American films I've ever seen.
But the most amazing thing about the film is how visually striking it is. Klein wrote: "I wanted to create the feeling of timelessness, and for that the photography had to have a classic quality to it.
It was written, produced and directed by Chilean filmmaker Rolando Klein, who studied in the UCLA film program, spent several years beating around the edges of Hollywood, and -- on the advice of director Jules Dassin -- returned to his Hispanic roots in 1972 to make this first (and apparently only) film.

 Review: Chinatown
Chinatown is unquestionably one of the best films to emerge from the 1970s, a period that has been called the "last great decade of American cinema" by more than one movie critic.
Chinatown requires that the viewer pay attention, not because there are lots of twists, but because the plot is complex and doesn't stop every ten minutes to bring slower audience members up to speed.

And Then There Were None - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The story was adapted for the cinema as And Then There Were None in 1945 and again in 1974; and also filmed as Ten Little Indians in 1959 (as truncated television recording of the play), 1965, 1974, 1989 and as Ten Little Niggers in 1987.
All but one of the films followed the play's humourous tone and ending, rather than the book's dark tone and a downbeat resolution.
The book's original title "Ten Little Niggers" was taken from the chorus of an American comic song, written by Septimus Winner in 1868; there are many variants of the lyrics, of which "Ten Little Injuns" is probably the most familiar to modern audiences.
