		Despite their low prospects this time, the future is not all doom and gloom for American rugby and things can quickly turn around, as the United States soccer team showed last year.
		One of the ironies of world rugby is that the Americans are the Olympic champions, winning the gold medal in 1924 when the once strictly amateur sport made its final appearance at the Olympics.
		There are others scattered around the globe and the great American hope is that the national side can eventually tap into the vast resource of athletes who fail to make it in the NFL but can make it in rugby.

		Apparently, both Konika teams, the men's and women's, are led by American Samoa Football and Soccer Association (ASFSA) president Richard Ott, whom Herrera claims was removed from the post after a meeting before the extraordinary congress followed by the AGM last month.
		Despite complaints lodged by PanSa soccer club president and women's team coach Sandra Herrera about the questionable outside players permitted to play for the Konika teams during the soccer championship games earlier this month, no delays or postponements were announced and the games proceeded with PanSa emerging as champions for the men's and women's division.
		Herrera said that despite her persistence, the members of the PanSa men's team were not at all intimidated by the presence of national players, with all of the players riding on their confidence to put up a challenge.

		The 1995 Pan-American soccer tournament was held in Argentina, and like many of the previous tournaments, the US had little to be proud of in its performance, especially considering that this U-23 team would be playing in the Olympics on home turf the following year.
		For people concerned about the vitality of men's college soccer, blaming Title IX or women's soccer for the men's woes is missing the target, a more appropriate target would be varsity football which uses an enormous number of men's scholarships, and causes problems for many men's sports, not just soccer.
		After briefly renaming themselves the United States International Soccer League, the USISL settled on the name United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues, to reflect their new organizational structure as a group of cooperating soccer leagues.
