AMERICANA continues the contradiction fostered by the Offspring with IXNAY ON THE HOMBRE; that of an anarchistic punk band signing up with and using the resources of a mighty recording industry monolith.

The Offspring is the debut album by The Offspring.
Album pressings after June 26, 2001 (July 16 in the UK) lack the song "Kill the President", the reason for the removal is still unknown but the main speculation is that the lead singer and label owner Dexter Holland believed it might cause political tensions.

Earle entered the studio and cut an album of neo-rockabilly songs that the label was reluctant to send to radio and, therefore, they refused to release the record.
With his third album, 1988's Copperhead Road, Earle's rock & roll flirtations came to the forefront and country radio responded in kind; none of the songs from the album charted or received much airplay.
Though the album didn't set the charts on fire, it became his first album to reach the charts, and several of the songs on the record became hits for other artists, including Raitt and Milsap.

When the album was purchased, I was so young, I couldn't really take it that seriously- I mean, how old was I? At an age like that, you can probably guess I wasn't much into the political and domestic themes in the album.
To me, all this album was a forty-minute long CD of nothing except punk rock riffs and a slightly annoying singer.
Americana, which has an obvious subject, and shows a little boy running over skulls with a football in his had, and an upside down American flag in the background.

This Is Americana - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The title of this 21-song budget sampler, This Is Americana, is the implied answer to an implied question, "What is Americana?" Well, listening to this CD probably won't clear the matter up, although you may walk away saying, OK, I know it when I hear it.
Technically, Americana is anything having to do with the U.S., its people, and its history, which means inner-city rap rhymes are as much Americana as a scruffy No Depression band doing a Buck Owens cover.
That still leaves a lot of stuff unaccounted for, but for the purposes of this AMA outfit, Americana is a little bit country and a little bit rock and a little bit pop, and if you want to throw bluegrass and folk in there, that's fine, but please, no blues or jazz.

The album as a whole is a tribute to past masters long forgotten in the annals of popular music history.
The album spans folk, country, blues, western, R and B; soul, rock n roll and jazz and strips them all down to their basic root, proving that they all come from the same vein.
I am very pleased I took the chance on this album as it is a thoroughly enjoyable listen, and one I can see myself consistently listening to in the future. What Mark did for this solo debut was take his whiskey soaked, emotionally charged voice and lace it with simplistic and mellow acoustic guitars.

The album, released by MCA’s Decca Records, is a study in country rockers and well-written poignant songs about desperate people living desperate lives that falls somewhere between Steve Earle’s "Guitar Town" and Bruce Springsteen’s "Nebraska".
Ask anyone familiar with the album what their favorite cut is and you’ll get a variety of answers as the album is chock full of great tunes.
Chris strips it all down to a voice and a guitar as we are introduced this time to a son who aims to break the cycle of abuse and drug use that has wrecked his family’s history.

Red Headed Stranger - Carla Bozulich, Music Downloads - Online
Nelson is back in true duet fashion on "Hands On the Wheel," and it as pretty as a soft, drunken love song can be as it takes the original narrative and turns it inside out,and still comes up with something truly amorous, truly beautiful, and truly fragile.
The album closes with Nelson's "Bandera," a haunting, wide-open country song that allows in its modality all sorts of room for improvisation, and the beginning of it is just that, before it becomes anchored in West Texas melodies as interpreted through Laurel Canyon's syntax.
Bozulich has really accomplished something here, taking a classic work of true Americana and making it her own, no less mythological, no less transcendent, and yet ultimately something wholly new and embracing.

The effort was probably the group's closest embrace of what we now call "Americana." Heavily influenced by the emerging country-rock movement, the album marked a clear change in direction away from the band's blues-based sound and resulted in a collection of twangy songs steeped in country and folk music.
The short collection of radio-friendly songs (the entire CD is just 32 minutes in length) seems to be aimed at an audience closer to that of her husband's than the mainstream country audience she once coveted.
In addition to songs from their previous two albums, the group also provided a brief glimpse of material from their upcoming CD which will be released in August.

Reed showcases a sense of pure musicianship over the album’s 16 tracks, most of which he wrote, and which feature everything from mandolins to 12-string guitars and plenty of tight harmonies.
The whole affair, from country swing to gentle bluegrass to acoustic ballad, is refreshingly classic in its approach.
The album’s highlight has to be “Frankie and Johnny,” Reed’s arrangement of a traditional tune.
