		Ameritrade has increased its basic commission rate per trade (not really a surprise- other on- line brokers have done the same thing) and it now has a long list of hidden and additional fees that can sneak up on you and diminish the value of your account.

		When we first started examining the online brokerage industry, Ameritrade looked to be a contender for our "Best Pick." Their $8 commissions thrilled us, and we thought they might be "the one" we would fall in love with when all the stock trading was history.

		Ameritrade discovered the loss in February when it received a damaged package containing a number of backup tapes shipped from its secure facilities in the U.S. Katrina Becker, an Ameritrade spokeswoman, said the shipping company caused the damage to the package.
