Amersham is widely known because of a multinational pharmaceutical company, Amersham plc (recently acquired in 2004, by the American company, General Electric), that took its name from the town.

The Parish Council has a separate precept or budget from the District Council for managing this land, with the exception of the areas fenced off for the football club and tennis club and the play area which the Council were made to take over responsibility or have it removed.
Management was delegated to the Parish from the Amersham Rural District Council but without a precept - probably at the time it cost virtually nothing to manage as it was grazed by cattle.
The County, District and Parish Councils therefore stand in as the owner by law and are responsible for the land.

Amersham and District had a High Wycombe garage opened in 1929 which in June 1930 was in charge of LGOC services from High Wycombe to Uxbridge, a route which competed with the Skylark Motor Coach Company.
On the 24th November 1933 Amersham and District was bought by the LPTB although the company name was still to be seen on their garage in 1934.
The rural routes from Amersham, at this date, were all operated by RF type single deck buses.

If the Amersham area ever gets a mention by the national media, it is usually described as a quiet market town, or commuter town or sleepy rural community in the heart of Bucks.
The Post Office claimed that the area is served by other post offices in Amersham and Chesham, despite there being little close parking at these other post offices and poor public transport to them.

I have not distinguished between social and affordable housing for two main reasons: The social housing data was available and the affordable housing was not, and I cannot see that the concept of affordable housing has any validity, except in the rented sector.
Both Chesham Urban District and Amersham Rural District Councils were their own Planning and Housing authorities up to the time of the formation of Chiltern District Council in 1972.
Very few homes in the Chiltern District are in these lower bands, and are certainly not the majority, because of the high value of properties in this area.
