Amherst Island is an island in Lake Ontario near Kingston, Ontario.
The island is approximately 70 km² in size, being 20 km long and 7 km at its widest.
The island was later settled by United Empire Loyalists and renamed Amherst Island in 1792 in honour of Jeffrey Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst, who was commander-in-chief of British forces in North America.

On the island there is very light traffic and the roads are in fair condition; terrain is flat; pioneers’ cemetery; Roman Catholic limestone church built in 1858.
Wolfe island is situated at the east end of Lake Ontario in the St. Lawrence river across from Kingston.
There are limited facilities on the island so be prepared; we picked up a topo map of the island from the general store (Glenn's); there also is a small restaurant.

The SNOWY PLOVER originally found on the May 25 OFO trip was still present this morning on Amherst Island.
Amherst Island is west of Kingston in Lake Ontario, and the Sewage Lagoons are on the mainland off Taylor Kidd Blvd. north of the village of Amherstview.
At least 6 SNOWY OWLS on the east end of the Island, at least 2 of which are very nice, almost totally white, adult males.

I don't want to fuel the fires about the Monacan Johnses of Amherst, but I don't believe that William "Mallory" Johns was the son of Robert and Mary Johns of Amherst.
Continuing: I have Dr. Houck's "Indian Island" open before me. I did not discover the item you mentioned, where Dr. Houck stated that William Mallory Johns was 91 years of age at his death in 1861.
This was enough for me to take another look at the 1787 tax census of Amherst, which was a census of the tithable white male population over the age of 21.

Amherst first-year Sarah Harper (Rochester, MN) tied for 31st with a two-day score of 88-94-182, and sophomore Melissa Sidman (Bethesda, MD) rounded out the Jeffs’ scoring with a 94-99-193, her best outing of the season, good for 42nd place.

In the summer a narrow piece of land sticking out around a marshy area at the east end is good for sandpipers and harriers.
On top of all that Gull and High Bluff Islands are the nesting places of a huge gull colony as well as cormorants, terns and herons.
During the breeding season (March 31 to Sept 30) these islands are off limits to visitors.
