The Amida Sangha exists for the practice and propagation of Pureland Buddhism in the traditions deriving from the sages of India, China and Japan.
The central practice of Pureland is unremitting mindfulness of the Tathagata; that is, of the spirit in which enlightened beings live, work and teach, both within the formal intensity of the dedicated practice environment and within the maelstrom of a world torn by poverty, disease, inequality and war.
The Amida Order is therefore concerned both with engaged Buddhism and with the contemplative path and with the wholeness of the person who can be both active in service to others and stable in practice.

If Amida is the totality of the meanings evoked in believers by the word, and if Christ is understood in the same way, then obviously Amida is not Christ and Christ is not Amida.
As Amida constitutes the Wisdom and Compassion that work everywhere in all things; so Christ is known by Christians as the Wisdom and Love of God working in the world creatively and transformatively.
But when "Amida" and "Christ" name the same feature of the totality, that is, the real and effective presence of wisdom and compassion everywhere and always, then what Buddhists believe about Amida and what Christians believe about Christ can be mutually confirming, mutually contradictory, or mutually supplementary.
