Amiga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first Amiga computer, simply called the Amiga, was released in 1985 by Commodore, who marketed it both as their intended successor to the Commodore 64 and as their competitor against the Atari ST range.
The Amiga brand was then sold to another PC manufacturer, Gateway 2000, which had grand plans for it, but they eventually sold it in 2000 before actually realizing their plans.
The Original Amiga chipset, or OCS, was more advanced than other architectures of its time: it had dedicated chips for graphic effects based on the monitor's beam position and the use of genlocks was very easy; even today many broadcast corporations still use A3000s and A4000s for their real-time video effects.

In 1991 March Commodore released the CDTV (Commodore Dynamic Total Vision) Amiga CDTV was the worlds first CD Game Console and basically was an Amiga 500 with a single speed (153 kB/sec) caddy loading CD-ROM drive, but without the keyboard or mouse but it was possible to connect them to the CDTV.
When the the Amiga CD32 came in 1994, coupled with low support for CDTV which had already started a slow but steady direction in oblivion, and by late 1995 the CDTV was officially dead as no software are or hardware developers supported it anymore.
But in the ashes of the CDTV now came the birth of the Amiga CD32 (gaming consol) which commodore had invested huge amounts of money into in the hopes it will be the cashcow they needed to continue future devolopment plans.

 Amiga Auckland OCS CDTV
The CDTV was introduced in April 1991 under the headline "TALK TO YOUR TELEVISION" and was marketed as the world's first CDTV interactive multimedia player.
Inside, it basically consisted of a standard OCS Amiga, not unlike the Amiga 500 of the day, but with a few extra bits including the CDROM drive and the infrared remote controller.
Despite all these attributes the CDTV was not a good seller, partly due to poor marketing by Commodore (sound familiar ?), and partly due to a lack of good software on CD.
