AmigaOne is a trademark available for licensing from Amiga, Inc. to computer hardware distributors and manufacturers who wish to sell PowerPC based motherboards for the purpose of running the upcoming AmigaOS version 4.
"AmigaOne" was originally the name of a project for new Amiga hardware, managed by the U.K. computer vendor Eyetech Group, Ltd., and designed by the German company Escena GmbH.
The AmigaOne motherboard was to be available in two models, the "AmigaOne-1200" and the "AmigaOne-4000." It was to have connectors for an Amiga A1200 or an A4000 respectively, in order to utilise the old custom chips of an Amiga.

The AmigaOne is essentially a series of motherboards running the Power PC processor which bear no resemblance to the Classic Amigas developed by Commodore.
Initially the AmigaOne was released in two versions, the 600MHz G3-based AmigaOneG3-SE, and the 700MHz G4-based AmigaOne-XE, with a third cheaper 700MHz G3-based AmigaOne-XE to be released later.
Due to the relatively high-cost of the AmigaOne boards and general unavailability for prolonged periods, a couple of people decided to design an alternative hardware solution which they intially referred to as 'Prometheus', and by July 2005 had produced some rough specifications and drawings.

AmigaOne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AmigaOne is the name of a computer platform/motherboard based on PowerPC architecture and running AmigaOS version 4.0 (created by Hyperion Entertainment, Belgium).
Later, the AmigaOne XE was based on the Teron PX motherboard, followed by the Micro-A1 (also known as ยต-A1), based on the Teron Mini.
The main difference between the ATX-format AmigaOne SE and XE was that the AmigaOne SE had a soldered-on 600 MHz PowerPC 750FX processor, whereas the AmigaOne XE used a CPU board attached to a MegArray connector on the motherboard.

The option of using a Motorola G4 cpu was rejected as the higher heat dissipation meant that passive cooling was not possible - and it is CPU fan failure which is one of the major causes of unreliability in computer systems.

Ultimately the AmigaOne is a transitionary product designed to run the Amiga DE and its applications in stand alone mode, and either fully retargetable Amiga applications - or those which rely on the AA chipset - in the meantime.
AmigaOne is the first such system, closely coupled to the hardware so it does not have the limitations of hosts that are not designed for our Quality of Service expectations.

The AmigaOne now has numerous versions of the board with differing specifications, namely the AmigaOne-SE G3, AmigaOne-XE G3, AmigaOne-XE G4 and the Mirco AmigaOne.

Welcoming back an old Amiga | CNET News.com
The new AmigaOne machines are the latest chapter in a 16-year saga of a computer whose superior technology was unable to carry it past market leaders such as Microsoft and Apple Computer.
The new AmigaOne faces some of the same issues that Apple's Macintosh had to go through in the mid-1990s, when Apple switched from Motorola's 68000-series chips to its higher-performance PowerPC line.
To be certified as an AmigaOne computer, Amiga's hardware partners must come up with a machine with Universal Serial Bus, the high-speed IEEE 1394 Firewire interface, Ethernet, a 56K modem, at least 64MB of memory and several other features.

All future AmigaOnes, including the AmigaOne XE and Micro AmigaOne will feature the G4, this is a faster version of the G3 and allows much higher clock rates up to 1,500Mhz or (1.5Ghz).
So its likely that the AmigaONE G3-SE will be the slowest A1 machine, but don't forget its still 350Mhz quicker than any cpu available for the classic Amiga`s and has faster ram, usb and PCI all on the board ready to be used, unlike the classic Amigas.
Along with introducing the Amiga to new CPU performance the AmigaOne G3 SE also carries on its board a number of other new devices/connectors that the classic Amiga never came with, and could only be supplied thought the use of hacks.
