Not Amin Gulgee, whose latest exhibition of sculpture pieces was a pleasure to attend, leaving one in no doubt of the maturity in his style through his 20-odd pieces on display.
Inspired by the geometric grid gardens or ‘Charbagh’ introduced in the subcontinent by the Mughals – from which the exhibition also derives its name – the spherical and cubic sculptures on display are based on the concept of the circles and squares that define the Charbagh.
Taking him three years to get the sculptures ready, Gulgee created the smaller models first, before embarking on the couple of gigantic 20ft high pieces, which are in a way, extensions of the earlier models.
