The tale of a reportedly demon-infested house in Amityville, New York, became a best-selling novel in 1977 and a hit horror film starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder in 1979.
The producers of the 2005 remake were also intrigued by the Amityville case not so much due to the horror film's scary details, but because the tale was allegedly true.
In fact, it is not much of a stretch to suggest that The Exorcist strongly influenced The Amityville Story: Recall that The Exorcist came out in December 1973, and demonic possession and hauntings were very much in the public's mind when the Lutzes spun their stories of diabolic activity a year or two later.

This sequel to The Amityville Horror is just as stupid and void of entertainment value as the first.
Amityville II opens with another family of hapless home buyers moving into the famous house.
In this episode*, the house fires the racked guns in the basement, breaks its own windows, causes plumes of flame to spurt forth from broken pipes, and practically throws the doors off their hinges.

 Amityville - Free Music Downloads - MP3 Downloads - Download.com Music
How Amityville Came to Be...it all started on a dark and dreary night, when three siblings decided to take over the world, so they thought and they thought, and finally they came up with the idea to create a band, a band that would control the universe with catchy riffs and beats.
Even though Amityville has been influenced by so many bands, and various styles of rock music, they mainly stick to the simple "3-chord punk theory", but they usually add an extra chord (complicated stuff).
Amityville likes to keep it simple, because they believe that less is more, and if you want to sing a song, get to the point, and don't waste time with instrumental fills that are skillful, but at the same-time have no concept of melody, and music.

'The Amityville Horror' - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution | AccessAtlanta
As the film trumpets loudly from the get-go, this remake or reimagining or reconditioning or whatever the heck it is of the original 1979 "The Amityville Horror" is based on a true story.
There is a New York house where murders happened and a family of five that moved in and, according to a best-selling book, started hearing things and seeing things like a pig staring in the window.
Set in the mid-1970s, this "Amityville" jettisons the porker, keeps the flies and stokes the proceedings with an outrageous, but certainly bloody, backstory.

Kaplan simply could not let go of the idea that he had ruined his chance to become involved in what may be the world’s most famous paranormal investigation, and therefore started the rumor that it was all a hoax.
Kaplan was never even inside of the Amityville house (except to attend a party--not as part of an investigation), despite his claims to the contrary.
Part of the reason was that the chief of police’s son was a newspaper reporter, and the police hoped to get vandals out of the area--since the story had broken, the traffic in the area had been nonstop.
