Topic: Ammonihah

  Alma 16
However, the subsequent verses make it clear that no one entered the former land of Ammonihah, so we are to understand that the released prisoners were given new lands from the land of Zarahemla.
It is hard to disagree with Mormon that this destruction of Ammonihah is a fulfillment of the prophecy of Alma (as mouthpiece for the Lord) against them.
For Mormon, it was God's vengeance that was wrecked upon Ammonihah, in accordance with the prophecy.

At any rate the city of Ammonihah, and Noah seem to fit the concept of priestcraft and the followers of a system after the order of Nehor as were they who populated the city of Ammonihah.
Ammonihah will be considered to be on the west of the Cauca River in the mid to lower section of the Cauca River for a number of reasons.
With Ammonihah being three days journey for Alma as he departed into the wilderness and until he arrived in the land of Ammonihah, there must have been great expanses of wilderness still remaining between the cities and lands which where populated.

This suggests that Ammonihah has not returned to its status as a major city-state, but is rather now a strategic position.
Thus the Lamanite general would have by-passed Ammonihah under the assumption that his progress into the more important parts of the land would be sufficiently rapid that he would not have to worry about his rear.
We have Mormon’s statement that the by-passing of Ammonihah and the march on Noah was just what Moroni wanted, and the presence of such an important general in Noah (as opposed to Ammonihah) indicates that this truly was Moroni’s plan.

It is speculated that this similar location of Ammonihah to that of Zarehemla just one valley over, and the confusion of selecting the proper valley that the Andean Core region seems to have produced all down through history, had a roll in the destruction of Ammonihah.
Ammonihah was a provincial land of other cities and lands surrounding those cities within the greater provincial Land of Ammonihah which was named after the city or land’s founder, Ammonihah.
If Alma was leaving the Ammonihah province which contained many cities and lands of its own and departing out of that 'quarter' of the land where Melek and Ammonihah was on the west, he very well could be going to the eastern quarter where Aaron was a major city in the east.

The Annotated Book of Mormon - alma Chapter 49
For they knew not that Moroni had fortified, or had built forts of security, for every city in all the land round about; therefore, they marched forward to the land of Noah with a firm determination; yea, their chief captains came forward and took an oath that they would destroy the people of that city.
And now, behold, this was wisdom in Moroni; for he had supposed that they would be frightened at the city Ammonihah; and as the city of Noah had hitherto been the weakest part of the land, therefore they would march thither to battle; and thus it was according to his desires.
And behold, Moroni had appointed Lehi to be chief captain over the men of that city; and it was that same Lehi who fought with the Lamanites in the valley on the east of the river Sidon.
