  Ammoperdix - Definition, explanation
Ammoperdix is a small genus in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes.
The males have distinctively-patterned grey heads, but the females are very washed-out in comparison, and this lack of a distinctive head pattern makes it more difficult to distinguish their species.
When disturbed, Ammoperdix partridges prefer to run rather than take to the air, but if necessary they will fly a short distance on rounded wings.

Having observed one of the birds through binoculars, I informed CB and the group that I had seen a 'fl-fronted' Ammoperdix partridge.
On both dates, observations were made in bright, strongly contrasting light, with 10 x 42 binoculars.

 This week in Palestine
The sand partridge, Ammoperdix heyi, is considered a game bird of the pheasant family, Phasianidae.
This 22-25 cm bird is characterized by its relatively smaller size in comparison with the chukar partridge, in addition to its sandy-brown plumage, the blue-grey head, and the white cheek patch with a yellow-orange bill that could be recognized easily in adult males.
It is important to conserve and protect its habitat as part of our responsibility towards protecting our natural heritage.

Most of the mountains are best visited by four-wheel drive vehicle as walking can be quite hard going.

The key birds for birdwatching visitors occur in winter and include species such as eastern pied and red-tailed wheatear, desert lesser whitethroat and plain leaf warbler.
