Amoco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Amoco Oil Corporation was founded in 1889 by John Rockefeller and first incorporated as Standard Oil of Indiana, formed from the breakup of gasoline giant Standard Oil.
Since then, Amoco has grown into a global oil and gasoline conglomerate; it was merged with British Petroleum in 1998 to form BP Amoco, which was later rebranded to BP.
Amoco was formed as Standard Oil (Indiana) in 1889 by John D. Rockefeller as part of the Standard Oil trust.

Case: NRC v. Amoco - Plews Shadley Racher & Braun, Indiana
Amoco ultimately concluded through testing that the contamination was confined to the leased premises and had not spread to adjacent land or groundwater.
Amoco contends that the district court should have limited the damages to the.327 acre leased parcel because the contamination did not spread beyond that area.
Amoco asks this Court to rely on the general rule in Indiana that the proper measure of damages for loss of use of property is the fair rental value of that property during the time of the injury.

 Bowen v. Amoco Pipeline Co.
Amoco did not, however, explain the information contained in the line sheet, which was technical and difficult to read, until the arbitration hearing when its employee testified that approximately 1,000 feet of pipeline was replaced in 1950.
Amoco contended that, despite the contamination in the soil around its pipelines, the hydrocarbon levels in the groundwater did not exceed EPA standards, and because the pollution in the soil was not reaching the water table, it was not reaching the creek.
Amoco argues that this memo was directed at the geological department and therefore proves nothing regarding its record-keeping practices in the pipeline department.

Amoco Cadiz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Amoco Cadiz was a supertanker, owned by Amoco, that split in two after running aground on Portsall Rocks, three miles off the coast of Brittany, in March 16, 1978, resulting in the 5th-largest oil spill in history.
The argument that arose between the captain of the Amoco Cadiz [Pasquale Bardari] and that of the captain of the German Tug Pacific [Harmut Weinert] was on the issue of LOF (Lloyds Open Form).
The Amoco Cadiz spill was one of the most studied oil spills in history.

77999 -- Amoco Production Co. V. Wilson, Inc. -- Larson -- Kansas Supreme Court
Amoco did have a valid oil and gas lease on the N/2 of Section 35 from the Hugoton formation down to 3,400 feet, and the parties drilled and have apparently jointly operated a producing gas well from the Panoma Council Grove formation as the result of the 1980 agreement.
Amoco acknowledges that doubtful language is to be construed against the drafter but points out we have said this is of little consequence where the parties are of equal bargaining power and each have had the opportunity to fully examine the proposed contract provision before the contract is executed.
Amoco speaks of this case as involving sophisticated parties who agreed that if either contributed an oil and gas lease that did not provide marketable title to explore for minerals within the Unit Area, their ownership therein would be revised on an acreage basis.

OSCN Found Document:White v. Amoco Production Co.
After Amoco was unable to negotiate the purchase of an oil and gas lease covering White's mineral interest or to procure White's participation in the drilling of the proposed well, it filed its forced pooling application on December 31, 1981 naming White as one of the respondents.
Amoco's witnesses did not appear at the scheduled hearing and the cause was continued for five days.
Amoco argues that as a matter of law neither White's mineral rights nor their lease value were converted and, additionally, White made no effort to lease his mineral rights to others during the pendency of the pooling application although the law he now challenges permits such an option.

Other than the line sheet, Amoco claimed it could find no other records detailing the reasons for and circumstances surrounding the 1950 line replacementdespite some testimony that it was corporate practice to keep such records.
(Aplt 710, 763-81, 795-81) Although Amoco's employees and experts argued the line replacement could have been a preventative measure, they admitted a leak in the line would be one explanation for the line replacement and for the concentration of crude oil in the soil in that exact location.
In response to the Bowens' objection to Amoco's motion to compel arbitration of all issues, Amoco arguedand the district court agreedthat the arbitration panel could grant injunctive relief and remediation, a position Amoco advocated throughout the arbitration and only now wishes to abandon.
