Though at one time Amon Lhaw had been part of the northern borderlands of Gondor and A high seat was built there (probably called The Seat of Hearing), that lay centuries in the past at the time of the War of the Ring; by then, it had long since fallen under the influence of Mordor.

His introspective moment at Amon Hen is a time of self-exploration, which in turn is a sign of wisdom.
Frodo, however, has kept his original honesty, as we see from his sincere conversation with himself at Amon Hen, while Boromir has become deceptive, not admitting to the rest of the Fellowship that he has tried to take the Ring from Frodo.

Like his father, he considered it utter madness to let Frodo go to Mordor with the Ring; all (common) sense dictated bringing the Ring to Minas Tirith and using it against Sauron.
Boromir often proved his skill and strength on their journey, but at Amon Hen he finally succumbed to the Ring's influence, first trying to persuade Frodo to go to Minas Tirith and then attempting to take it by force.
Though his motives may have been righteous and based on an incorrect perception of things, his actions went too far when the Company reached Amon Hen.

I also think the Amon Hen scene in the movie is a huge improvement of the one in the book.
When Aragorn and Arwen are talking at the shards of Narsil in Rivendell, he expresses his fear that he will not be able to withstand the evil of the Ring, and fail as Isildur did.
Arwen responds with, "You will face the same evil, and you will defeat it." In the scene at Amon Hen when Aragorn is tempted by the Ring, and resists that temptation, it just wraps it up very well.

Moving straight from the Ferry to Bree introduces an awkward inconsistency, because it was during their adventures in the Barrow-downs that the Hobbits acquired their weapons.
To fill this gap, we have Aragorn producing a satchel of short swords on Amon Sûl, though the film doesn't attempt to explain how he got his hands on this convenient selection of hobbit-sized weaponry.
Though this isn't perhaps obvious in the movie, there is a neat touch in that the town's gatekeeper has two spy-holes to look through, one at Man-height, and one at Hobbit-height.
