	USAID/Sri Lanka :: Tsunami cleanup unites Sri Lanka
		Two days after the coastal villages in Sri Lanka’s Ampara’s Eastern Province were ravaged by the deadly tsunami, the phone rang at the USAID office in this district capital.
		In Ampara, volunteers worked on the worst-hit schools, several of which were structurally sound but strewn with mud and heaped with overturned desks and ruined books.
		As the only international organization with a continuous presence in Ampara at the time of the tsunami, USAID has been in a unique position to help.

		(Ampara Economic Recovery Organisation) is a local organization based in Kalmunai that has accepted the daunting task of rebuilding Sri Lanka's worst tsunami-ravaged district (Ampara district).
		AERO's principal objective is to restore as quickly as possible the normal economic and cultural life of people of Ampara district who were affected by the tsunami disaster.
		AERO is steadily planning and executing an economic recovery strategy for Ampara District with support from a broad consortium of local and international NGOs.
