Ampyx (with a small 'a', of course) has been the family's Internet alias since the first faltering steps at 2400 baud on a borrowed notebook PC.
It seemed appropriate for a geologist to choose the name of a fossil associated with the area in which we live.
Ampyx takes its name from the ancient Greek word for a style of broad headband that covered much of the forehead.
