  Ringnes.no: Om Ringnes

Ellef Ringnes Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ellef Ringnes Island is one of the Sverdrup Islands in Nunavut, Canada.
It lies east of Borden Island and west of Amund Ringnes Island and has an area of 4,361 square miles (11 295 km²), making it the 69th largest island in the world and Canada's 16th largest island.
They determined that the average position of the North Magnetic Pole in 1994 was located on the Noice Peninsula, southwest Ellef Ringnes Island, at 78.3° N, 104.0° W. The pole passed away from the island that year and now lies some 250 miles (400 km) to the NNW [1].

ABSTRACT: Late Wisconsinan glacial and relative sea level history of Amund and Ellef Ringnes Islands, Nunavut, Canada.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Ice-flow indicators and granite dispersal along eastern Amund Ringnes Island record the inundation of Massey Sound by northwestward flowing trunk ice from Innuitian divides spanning the alpine and lowland sectors of the Queen Elizabeth Islands.
The interior of Amund Ringnes Island was overridden by granite-free Innuitian ice flowing north from a lowland divide spanning the central Queen Elizabeth Islands.
The continuity of the isobases across Amund and Ellef Ringnes islands is consistent with the glacial geologic evidence that suggests Massey and Hassel sounds were occupied by grounded ice during the last glaciation.

Canadian Arctic - Amund Ringnes Island
Amund Ringnes Island (5,255 km²) forms part of the Sverdrup Islands subgroup of the Queen Elizabeth Islands group.
Situated in the northwestern regions of the high Arctic zone, Amund Ringnes Island lies between the larger islands of Axel Heiberg (43 km to the east, across the Massey Sound) and Ellef Ringnes (28 km to the west, across the Hassel Sound).
The island is of low relief with average elevations of between 50 m and 100 m above sea level, with low gradient slopes that grade smoothly to the coast.

Abstract: Geomorphic and chronologic evidence from Amund and Ellef Ringnes islands documents the configuration, dynamics, and collapse of the northwest sector of the Innuitian Ice Sheet.
Ice-flow indicators and granite dispersal along eastern Amund Ringnes Island suggest Massey Sound was filled by an ice stream discharging coalescent alpine and lowland ice from Norwegian Bay.
In contrast, the interior of Amund Ringnes Island was overridden by predominantly non-erosive, granite-free ice from a divide in the lowland sector of the ice sheet.

Amund and Ellef Ringnes islands occupy the northwestern Queen Elizabeth Islands, Arctic Canada.
Ice-flow indicators and granite dispersal along eastern Amund Ringnes Island record the inundation of Massy Sound by northwestward flowing trunk ice from Innuitian divides spanning the alpine and lowland sectors of the Queen Elizabeth Islands.
Local ice caps persisted along the coastlines of Ringnes Islands at least 1400 radiocarbon years aftern the initial evacuation of ice from the intervening marine channels.

Ringnes - Review - Gruvedrifts en pint. Ha en Dem vert.
Brothers Ellef and Amund Ringnes left the family farm in Krødsherad early in life to try their luck in Christiania.
Amund worked his way up from brewery apprentice to brewery master at the Christiania Brewery while the younger Ellef harvested experience from customer relations, business management and administrative work at the same place.
Ringnes competes in sales of wine and spirits that are often imported and have a higher alcohol content and we therefore find it difficult to understand why taxes on these products were lowered by 15% while the tax reduction for beer was only 5%.

Postglacial emergence of Amund and Ellef Ringnes islands, Nunavut: implications for the northwest sector of the Innuitian Ice Sheet
These suggest the Ringnes Islands occupied the northwest radius of the Innuitian uplift, which is congruent with glacial geological evidence suggesting parts of the Ringnes Islands were covered by the Late Wisconsinan Innuitian Ice Sheet.
The absence of an isobase embayment across the Ringnes Islands suggests a relatively uniform ice load across both islands and Hassel and Massey sounds.
