An Jung-geun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An Jung-geun, after having previously led Korean forces fighting against the Japanese, assassinated Ito Hirobumi on the railway platform in Harbin, Manchuria in 1910.
In the science-fiction movie, 2009 Lost Memories, An Jung-geun is prevented from assassinating Hirobumi and the resulting cascading effect in the timeline later causes Japan to win World War II as an ally of the United States.

Anti-Americanism is also evident in the film, with the United States allying with the hated Japanese oppressor in World War II, and with the "JBI" (Japanese Bureau of Investigation) heavily modelled on the American FBI.
Japan joins the permanent U.N. Security Council in 1960, launches the Sakura 1 satellite in 1965 and holds the 1988 Olympics in Nagoya (not Seoul), and Lee Dong-gook scores for (not against) Japan in the 2002 FIFA World Cup Japan (not 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan).
In light of the influential economic and political shadow that Japan has cast on its neighbors in the real world, the sci-fi film is an evident example of Korean anti-Japanese sentiment.

At first it appears that the threat that Su-mi (Im Soo-jung, in a performance for which she was awarded the Best New Actress prize at the recent Korean Film Awards) is most worried about comes from the girls' apparently evil stepmother (Yeom Jeong-ah).
The pair appear to have an unusually close relationship, with the older sister fiercely guarding her seemingly hapless younger sibling from any potential harm.
Unlike many of its uncanny celluloid brethren, this one is more of an intellectual enterprise that involves the cerebral machinations of its characters rather than a standard horror trope; yet this disturbing but engaging trip into the ominous Korean countryside where two strange sisters dwell still makes for fascinating viewing.

Upon returning home from an unexplained stay at a mental hospital, Su-Mi (Im Soo-Jung) and her younger sister Su-Yeon (Moon Geun-Young) cling to each other while dealing with their cruel stepmother (a wickedly good Yeom Jeong-A) and whatever horrible things might be hiding in the dark, shadowy hallways or in Su-Yeon's closet.
Their reserved, ineffectual father (Kim Kab-Su) isn't much help, so Su-Mi becomes the fierce guardian of her younger sister, protecting her against their stepmother and whatever other horrors inhabit the house.
