U.S. Patent: 5007042 - Method and apparatus for transmitting analog data embedded in a digital pulse train - April 9, ...
An analog zero voltage reference level pulse and an analog high voltage reference level pulse are transmitted in the same pulse train as the analog data in some embodiments, to ensure accurate interpretation of the data, eliminating effects of component drifts in sensitive analog circuits.
The analog data is carried as the width of the digital pulses in the pulse train and analog identification data is carried in the width of one or more of the sync pulses.
Analog data is input to pins 5 and 14 for one channel and to pins 4 and 11 for another channel.

Analog recording means are responsive to the analog output signal for performing a preselected process to form a second analog data signal and recording the second analog data signal on the recording medium.
In a further embodiment when a digital data signal or an analog data signal is recorded on high-performance magnetic tape, in the digital recording means, a first recording specification for performing signal processing in which a digital data signal is recorded as a bit stream is selected.
In the analog recording means, a third recording specification for performing signal processing is selected in which the first or the second analog data signal is recorded over a standard frequency bandwidth.

Continuously Acquire Analog Data Using Buffers and Charting the Results - Example - Development Library - National ...
Data is continuously acquired into a circular buffer at the same time that data previously retrieved from the buffer is plotted.
If the buffer is too small or you are not reading data from it fast enough, your data will be overwritten by new data before you have a chance to read it (overwrite error).
A common reason to read data while the acquisition is in progress is to process and display the data in pseudo-real time.

Apparatus for transmitting digital data in analog form (EP0407031B1)
A transmitter receiving digital data in parallel multibit words converts digital words in conversion clock cycles to a single analog signal relative to a DC level.
The transmitter also includes a reference pulse generator which combines a reference pulse with the analog levels generated by the converter to form an analog output for transmission to the receiver.
Thus, by using a digital to analog to digital systems, effective bit rates are achieved that are higher than the switching speeds of the transmitter and receiver.

We have determined that the acceleration data being acquired even by these newer digital strong motion instruments are in some cases subject to small baseline instabilities, often appearing as step-like or transient offsets.
The most significant departures of this new scheme from previous methods used by NSMP for digital data derived from analog recordings are the fitting of a quadratic instead of a linear function to velocity to obtain the baseline correction for acceleration, the use of a causal instead of an acausal (bi-directional) Butterworth filter.

The high volume of data, the resolution requirements for science data, and the complexity of the in-situ processing and analysis requirements have triggered the need for faster, smaller, and easily reconfigurable designs.
In particular, the need for a high-speed multi-channel analog data acquisition system that can perform DSP functions and employ analog shaping is a widespread need for spacecraft and instrument computers.
In general, possible applications are to any type of instrument whose output is an analog waveform where the science is related to a characteristic of the analog waveform, such as pulse height, rise time, and area of the pulse.

Analog-Signal Data Acquisition in Industrial Automation Systems - Maxim/Dallas
Despite the availability of the digital field bus in several versions, industrial control systems continue to employ standard analog signals for transmitting data between the process and the control equipment.
Because these devices are digital systems operating with process-specific software, all analog signals must be converted to digital numbers before a computer can read them.
A/D conversion in a control system is performed by boards or boxes called "analog peripherals." They connect to the CPU via the system's back-plane bus, or a field bus if mounted remotely (on a machine, for example).
