  Analyze That (2002): Reviews
What we get in Analyze That are several talented actors delivering their familiar screen personas in the service of an idiotic plot.
Analyze That is no surprise, and pleasant is about the most you can say for it.
This tepid sequel to Harold Ramis's mobster-on-the-couch comedy "Analyze This" (1999) is partially redeemed by Robert De Niro's handful of scenes with Cathy Moriarty-Gentile, who made her screen debut as the teenage wife in "Raging Bull."

The Z Review - Analyze That
Analyze That sees the return of Director Harold Ramis and actors Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal, but the characters and material they return to feel much too dated and recycled.
Analyze That is a disappointment, despite some efforts to create valuable comedic relief, even if some of it is toilet-like humor or completely ridiculous, like the sushi incident.
I believe Analyze That comes in Dolby Digital 5.1 even though it is not specified on the DVD cover or language menu.

SCREEN IT! ARTISTIC REVIEW: ANALYZE THAT
The other occurred in the comedy "Analyze This" where the mob figure sought the help of a psychiatrist and after various humorous occurrences, ended up being caught by the feds.
That's the premise of "Analyze That," the inevitable and anticipated sequel to the popular comedy hit that paired Robert De Niro ("City by the Sea," "Showtime") and Billy Crystal ("Monsters, Inc." "America's Sweethearts") as the mobster and psychiatrist respectively.
Occasionally humorous and certainly easy enough to watch thanks to the presence and game attitude of De Niro and Crystal to play their parts, the film has its moments, but clearly not nearly enough of them to make this effort anywhere as fun or funny as its predecessor.

Analyze That - Rotten Tomatoes   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
In my opinion, Analyze That is not as funny or entertaining as Analyze This, but it is a respectable sequel.
All Analyze That proves is that there is really only one movie's worth of decent gags to be gleaned from the premise.
To say Analyze That is De Niro's best film since Meet the Parents sums up the sad state of his recent career.

"Analyze This," "Meet the Parents," "Analyze That," and to a certain degree (it was okay), "Showtime."

  analyze that
An entirely needless sequel to 1999's surprise hit Analyze This, it no longer has the elements of surprise and novelty in its favor.
Analyze This came from nowhere and introduced us to Robert De Niro the born-again comedian; it worked because Ramis took one of De Niro's characters from the world of Martin Scorsese and paired him with schlumpy, skittish Crystal.
Analyze That is just more of the same, watered down and stripped of its novelty.

Analyze That revolves around Vitti being sprung from Sing Sing prison into the custody of his analyst, Sobel.
Analyze This was a funny idea that executed its plot with precision.
Analyze That is rated PG-13 for occasional profanity and violence, but always with a humorous approach to the Mafia lifestyle.

Austin 360 Movies: 'Analyze That' Reviews --- Austin American-Statesman
"Analyze This" was one of those too-frequent instances in which a movie sounds much funnier than it actually is. The premise -- a mafia boss starts seeing a psychiatrist, then becomes dependent on his advice -- overlapped nicely with the explosive popularity of "The Sopranos," and the casting got audiences in the door.
The staleness is uncomfortably clear in one of the opening scenes of the sequel, "Analyze That," in which Billy Crystal and Lisa Kudrow bicker after Crystal's father's funeral.
In the first film, Kudrow played a bride-to-be whose wedding was spoiled by a gangster; in that situation, her consternation was funny, but as a wife who can't sympathize with her husband's life-threatening dilemma (a gangster is stalking him long-distance), she's a good deal less entertaining.

 Analyze That
When Analyze This came out, it was immediately overrated and made much more money than it should have over a premise that just wasn't that funny.
Instead of coming up with a logical premise for a sequel, Analyze That is the type of sequel that haphazardly throws the principal stars back together and hopes for the same success as the original.
Director Harold Ramis (Bedazzled, Analyze This) and co-writers Peter Steinfeld (Drowing Mona, Echo) and Peter Tolan (Stealing Harvard, America's Sweethearts) needed some contrived plot device to reunite mob boss Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro, City by the Sea, Showtime) and therapist Ben Sobol (Billy Crystal, Monster's Inc., America's Sweethearts).

Movie Review - Analyze That - www.ericdsnider.com - The Official Website of Eric D. Snider
"Analyze This," the 1999 hit that was his first major comedy role, succeeded in part because De Niro was skewing his public persona just enough to be surprising.
"Analyze That," the sequel to "Analyze This," suffers from an even more damaging fact: Since the first film was released, "The Sopranos" has become a cultural phenomenon.
("Analyze This" was actually released two months after the first episode of "The Sopranos" aired, but no one was paying attention yet then.) Both films and the HBO series are about ruthless Mafia bosses who see psyhiatrists to help them sort out their feelings, particularly their parental issues.

 Filmtracks: Analyze That (David Holmes)
Analyze That: (David Holmes) With New York's most powerful gangster now "getting in touch with his feelings," this sequel to the highly popular film Analyze This returns the same principle cast under the direction of Harold Ramis for another go-around of psychiatrist versus mob boss fun.
Holmes is also able to frequently insert layers upon layers of samples, and no better an example of this is heard than in the opening track, in which a female voice saying "oh, yeah" is mixed in at appropriate beats and even the sound of a wristwatch alarm clock does the same.
Analyze That doesn't have as much of the appealing funky work (in tribute to the Vegas style of Lalo Schifrin) as Ocean's Eleven, but the same sense of urban sophistication is present.

Analyze That (2002) - Ninth Symphony Films Review
Crass, loud, yet filled wall-to-wall with jokes, Analyze That is not as fresh as its predecessor, but the movie will probably have many audience members in stitches anyway.
Though the story could have been brought to the screen with any number of actors, it was a good move that the casting director chose Mr.
The two hours spent in the theater for this one are well worth it if your goal in buying a ticket is to laugh at some inane jokes and a few talented actors, this movie will deliver.

While I can praise the filmmakers of “Analyze That” for not calling the film “Analyze This 2,” I can not forgive them for creating a completely forgettable and unfulfilling movie experience that should be much better than it is, if only for the talented cast working within the confines of a dead-on-the-water script.

Analyze That" turned out to be like most other sequels -- a couple giggles, but nothing majorly entertaining.
I loved "Analyze This," so if anybody were to be prejudice about the sequel, it should be me! But I don't agree one bit with the critics or (no offense) the fellow PJ reviewers.
And what's this crap about "Analyze That" being "more of the same thing." The plot is completely different from the original.

 Eye Weekly - Analyze That - 12.05.02
In more than 30 years of acting, Robert De Niro has never before stooped to make a sequel to any of his movies, and this first attempt, Analyze That, can only be interpreted as a harbinger of dark times.
Part of the problem is that audiences have already seen the intelligent version of this mobster-on-the-couch plot; it was called The Sopranos.
Scores of gangster movies have given critics the perfect punchline to their negative reviews, but I will ignore the urge to insert the compulsory "fuhgeddaboudit" here.

'Analyze That' - MOVIE REVIEW - Los Angeles Times - calendarlive.com
In the slapdash comedy "Analyze That" Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal reunite to toss around the sort of cheap jokes that Crosby and Hope used to take on the road to wherever.
As with "Analyze This," the comedy that first brought the big-screen odd couple together, the new film hinges on the high concept of Crystal's shrink nervously dispensing psychiatric help to De Niro's mobster, a gangster with a potentially lethal grasp on the therapeutic process.
But never before had the joke seemed at his expense, as it did with "Analyze This." The barbs didn't feel aimed at De Niro's character as much as the crazies and heavies he had inhabited: It was as if the actor were launching an assault on his own legacy.

Modamag.com | Analyze That - Billy Crystal, Robert DeNiro (Movie Review)
While reuniting most of the cast, the writers, and the director of 1999’s “Analyze This,” one cannot help but to feel that the filmmakers have left out most of the sparkle that would make this normally “sure thing” sequel such a blast.
There is a decided lack of magic to “Analyze That,” and what remains on the screen falls somewhere in between courtesy laugh material, and downright befuddlement at some of the judgment calls from the writers.
It’s a fluffy, obviously fun-to-make comedy, but writers Peter Steinfeld, Harold Ramis (who also directs), and Peter Tolan don’t push their film very far, insisting that the very sight of these character will be enough for the yuks to come.
