		Anami Narayan Roy is the Police Commissioner of Mumbai.
		Roy is an Indian Police Service officer and was the commissioner of the nearby city of Pune before taking over.
		Roy has been in service for 33 years, and has been transferred 21 times, once when his wife was about to deliver, and next when the baby was a week old.

		Roy, who took over when the underworld activities were still on, said before he took over, there was a general fear among people about safety.
		Roy said he believed in basic, fundamental policing, which according to him was the ultimate solution to all problems.

		Roy was very keen to add more Muslims to the 42,000-plus strong police force of Bombay.
		Roy become the first city police commissioner to take the initiative of interacting with Muslims and during his speeches in Muslim institutions he had appealed to Muslim leaders to exhort the youths to join the city police force with a promise that his department would extend all cooperation and assistance to Muslim candidates.
		Keeping no secrets of the facts that the growing meance of terorism and organized crime has compelled the city police to strengthen its intelligence network and with wider reprsentation of Muslims in the force, the task of the police would become easier to penetrate into terrorist groups.

		By Abhijit Sathe Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) Mumbai is still one of the safest cities in the country and the police here are striving to keep up the status, city police chief Anami Narayan Roy said today.
		According to Roy, in the last two years there has been no major underworld activity, except some isolated incidents where gangsters fired at shops and establishments to instil fear.
		"I don't claim that the underworld is finished...But we have stopped their local activities," Roy said, adding that in many cases police foiled gangsters' attack plans.
