The author of AnangaRanga believed that the main reason for separation between married couples was the desire of the husband to have varied pleasures due to the monotony in the relationship.
For that reason, the AnangaRanga was written in order to prevent this separation, by including descriptions of several different types of kissing, biting, and even spanking, not to mention a whole collection of sex positions.
AnangaRanga is also known as Kama Shastra, particularly in editions that focus on the sex positions chapters.
Some of the writings of the AnangaRanga are taken from the Kama Sutra.

A few translations of the ancient works were circulated privately, such as Sir Richard Burton's translations of the AnangaRanga and The Perfumed Married Love by Marie Stopes, published in 1918, was a ground-breaking sex manual, although it was limited in the detail in which it could discuss sex acts.
