		In 1832 the opening of the Desjardins Canal in DUNDAS, Ancaster's neighbour and rival, was a blow to Ancaster.

		The Ancaster Cardinals defeated Oakville (12 year olds) 8-2 in the final of the Dundas Major Little League Tournament on Sunday, September 18th.
		Ancaster went undefeated in the tourney defeating Oakville (12 year olds) 2-1, East Nepean 4-2, Oakville (11 year olds) 14-4, and Dundas 9-2.
		Ancaster Little League is the central organization providing baseball and softball in this community.

		High Dyke becomes much lower as it descends into the Ancaster gap, the one time course of the River Witham and perhaps even a proto-Trent, but now an all but dry valley, the source of the River Slea in years when the water table in the limestone hills is high enough to feed the springs.
		Ancaster is the source of Ancaster stone, a mid-Jurassic oolitic limestone, worked by the Romans and used for many great buildings such as Lincoln Cathedral.
