		Ancient Rites is a Belgian fl metal band formed in early 1989.
		However painful this episode was to the band, they decided to continue and Stefan's position was taken by his drum roadie Walter Van Cortenberg.
		During their existence the band has been subjected to boycotts, bomb threats and various other misfortunes, but this did little to stop them and only strengthened their resolve to push on.

		Most of us in the present time cannot imagine this band not being terrible overblown gothic heavy metal, but they were once great, and this compilation of 7" tracks and the undernoticed EP "Trolltaar" from 1995 is convincing in establishing the strength and vitality of this second-wave Norwegian act.

		Throughout the years of A.R.'s existence the band had to deal with a lot of misfortune (boycotts, bomb threats, violence at concerts, ripped off for large amounts of money by labels and promoters, members ending up in hospital or dying), however anger can be turned into power and all the hardship can be an inspiration.
		After a negotiation and business transaction between the labels ANCIENT RITES moved from Mascot Records to Hammerheart Records for which a fourth full length entitled "Dim Carcosa" was recorded in winter 2000/2001.
		Not long afterwards, the band binds its ties again with Bart Vandereycken, who played the guitars on the first two albums as well as the EP's which have reached cult status by now.

		The band had to face many problems like fights at their gigs which gave them a bad reputation resulting in less venues wanting to book the band, boycotts cause of their attitudes and lyrics, cancelled tours etc. Problems within the band forced ANCIENT RITES to replace Stefan by drumroadie Walter.
		That same year ANCIENT RITES recorded a track to be released on a a split EP on After Dark Records and on the "Detonation" compilation CD from Tessa Records which resulted in a lot of air play.
		Back in Belgium the band entered the studio to record their first full length album entitled "The Diabolic Serenades" which was released on After Dark Records in January 1994.

		We are not the "commercial rock band with extreme vocals" we would have been if we had followed their feeble path and "Synagoga Diabolica" makes me proud for it is the very best release in the band history.

		I would like the band to return to the style of their first album “Svartalvheim” since I do not care for the last two albums nearly as much.
		Kaiaphas’ lyric’s (the ex-singer of ANCIENT) wrote ‘vampiric’ lyrics on "The Cainian Chronicle" album but all the lyrics were inspired from “The Book of Nod”, a book written for the role playing game “Masquerade”.
