The mathematics of each period differ, though sources from the Vedic period show more clearly that many fundamentals of mathematics were developed in India (Vasudeo 1).
As a direct result of this, and the sheer level of mathematical achievement that India exhibited, much of modern mathematics is based upon Indian mathematics.

Corinna Rossi's Architecture and Mathematics in Ancient Egypt is the revised version of the author's doctoral dissertation submitted to the University of Cambridge.
Rossi maintains that scholars have mostly approached Egyptian architecture from modern mathematical perspectives rather than from the perspective of Egyptian mathematics itself.
To my mind, the tendency to rule out anything 'symbolic' in the mathematical bases of Egyptian architecture, even with the dearth of evidence, and to place 'symbolism' or 'symbology' solely within the realm of the aforementioned eccentric or outdated theories is an aspect of the book that may be considered misleading.

Many math history classes study the documentation of this Papyrus because it is thought to be a good representation of the mathematical level of the ancient Egyptians and displays one of the earliest known forms of mathematics.
Thomas Eric Peet, a noted professor of Egyptology, refers to the table of fractions in the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus as being proof that the Egyptians did not reach a scientific understanding of mathematics (ibid).
Although earlier evidence of Egyptian mathematics exist, the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus is the source most frequently quoted as an example of classical Egyptian mathematics (Gillings 260-261).

BBC NEWS Science/Nature Greeks 'borrowed Egyptian numbers'
An analysis by Dr Stephen Chrisomalis of McGill University in Montreal, Canada, showed striking similarities between Greek alphabetic numerals and Egyptian demotic numerals, used in Egypt from the late 8th Century BC until around AD 450.
New research suggests the Greeks borrowed their system known as alphabetic numerals from the Egyptians, and did not develop it themselves as was long believed.
But one thing it seems the ancient Greeks did not invent was the counting system on which many of their greatest thinkers based their pioneering calculations.
