RULE XIX   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Cadence is the result of the proper harmony that a horse shows when it moves with well marked regularity, impulsion and balance.
Cadence must be maintained in all the different exercises and in the variations of each gait.
The quality of the pirouettes (half‑pirouettes) is judged according to the suppleness, lightness, cadence and regularity and to the precision and smoothness of the transitions; pirouettes (half‑pirouettes) at canter are judged also according to the balance, the elevation and the number of strides (at pirouettes 6‑8, at half‑pirouettes 3‑4 are desirable).

Probably the original Andalusian dates back to the native Spanish Sorraia horse, equus stenonius, which carries “...the dominant gene for the subconvex profile, the high trotting action and the close coupled compact body observed in the present-day Spanish...horse”.
The Lippizans were a cross between the native horse of Austria with Andalusian stallions The Archduke Charles of Austria in 1582,the brother of King Felipe II a.k.a.
He is of great spirit and of great courage and docile: hath the proudest trot and the best action in his trot, the loftiest gallop, and is the lovingest and gentlest horse, and fittest of all for a king in his day of triumph”.

The movement we strive for is elevation with extension, rhythm, balance, harmony and cadence.
The ideal Andalusian movement lays between these two: elevation with extension from the shoulder, rhythm, balance, harmony and cadence.
The ideal Andalusian should easily lower the haunches and push from behind in such a way that the front end "pops" in the air and barely touches the ground.

His innovations therefore are structured around three objectives: the development of new ways of marking the Andalusian cadence, the utilization of innovative tunings, and the fusing of diverse forms.
His Jerez touch is noticeable in the power of his thumb, arpeggios and picados in the bulería "Jucal" (‘bueno’ in the gypsy language Calé), played at breakneck speed, where he exploits the Andalusian cadence in the tone of D (re) sharp phrygian which he uses to explore new sounds.
In this way his composition used three traditional flamenco colors: that of seguiriya, given to deep sounds on the bass strings, that of granaína due to the cadence used, and that of Levante due to the utilization of the second minor interval in the sharps.

What followed was a mass exodus of Moors, Jews and Gitanos from Granada city and the villages to the mountain regions (and their hills) and the rural country.
It was in this socially and economically difficult situation that the musical cultures of the Moors, Jews and Gitanos started to form the basics of flamenco music: a Moorish singing style expressing their hard life in Andalusia, the different compas (rhythm styles), rhythmic hand clapping and basic dance movements, see Andalusian cadence.
Many of the songs in flamenco still reflect the spirit of desperation, struggle, hope, pride, and late-night partying of the people during this time.

Allan H. Hamid, President of the Spanish-Norman Horse Registry, Inc. announced in 1996 that there are thirty-two Andalusian stallions as foundation sires of the Spanish-Norman breed.
Research by registry founder Allan Hamid, a history teacher and prominent Andalusian breeder in Connecticut established that both the Andalusian and the Percheron share Barb ancestry.
A versatile sporthorse, the Spanish-Norman embodies the heritage of its noble ancestors; the elegant beauty, boldness and natural collection of the regal Andalusian and the size, strength and bone density of the powerful Percheron.

Because the Spanish Barb was not a gaited breed (most of the Andalusians were gaited at that time, and the Jennet had very strong gaiting genes that usually carried through), there were some excellent horses produced that didn't gait.

That unmistakable four-beat cadence you hear tapping on the restaurant floor is coming from the horse's rapidly moving hooves.
Descendants of Spain's Andalusian, Barb and Jennet breeds, these New World horses had a propensity to gait, thanks to the blood of the gaited Spanish Jennet.
The four beats of this gait are caused by the fact that each hoof contacts the ground independently in a regular sequence at exact intervals.

According to Blas Infante in his story "Orígenes de lo flamenco y secreto del cante jondo", etymologically, the word Flamenco comes from Hispano-Arabic fellah mengu, "Peasant without Land".
This hypothesis has no basis in historical documents, but Infante connects it to the huge amount of Ethnic Andalusians who decided to stay and mix with the Gypsy newcomers instead abandoning their lands because of their religious beliefs (Moriscos).

According to Blas Infante in his story "Orígenes de lo flamenco y secreto del cante jondo", Etymologically, the word Flamenco comes from the Arabic word Fellahmengu, "Peasant without Land".
This is related to the huge amount of Ethnic Andalusians who decided to stay and mix with the Gypsy newcomers instead abandoning their lands because of their religious beliefs (Moriscos).
When the Castilians later ordered the expulsion or forceful conversion of the Andalusian Moriscos, they took refuge among the Gypsies, becoming fellahmengu in order to avoid death, persecution, or forced deportation.
