It was the year 1990, Jesper decided to take leave of the band Ceremonial Oath, that he was currently in, together with Anders Fridén and Anders Iwers (Tiamat) He wanted to make music in a different direction, and he teamed up with Johan Larsson and Glenn Ljungström to form IN FLAMES.
Luckily they were good friends with Peter Iwers and Niklas Engelin, who both happened to play bass and guitar, and they filled in at the end of the recordings, to do a mini-tour with Dimmu Borgir.
Peter Iwers did not join them on all of these tours as he had a new arrival back home, that he stayed home with instead, a baby girl, but he joined in for the Scandinavian and Japan dates, and was temporarily replaced by Dick Löwgren from Armageddon for the other tours.

Soon after that album's release, however, Dronjak and bassist Jesper Stromblad left to pursue other interests (which turned to be HammerFall and In Flames).
The remaining duo of guitarist Anders Iwers and drummer Markus Nordberg recruited new members and eventually a second album, Carpet, was released in 1995, by which time the band had already officially broken up for good.
Carpet was actually a compilation of two separate recording sessions with two different vocalists, both of which also went on to fame and fortune elsewhere.

IN FLAMES "CLAYMAN"  BIO -- THE SYNDICATE
Originally featuring members Anders Fridén, Anders Iwers (Tiamat), Johan Larsson and Glenn Ljungström, the ferocious five-piece fed upon the desire to bring music to an entirely new realm of melody, complexity and infectiously heavy tunes.
Their somewhat revolving door of members, which have included Iwers, Mikael Stanne and Anders Jivarp (Dark Tranquillity), Henke Forss (Dawn), and Daniel Erlandsson (Eucharist, Arch Enemy) among others, aided in morphing the band's distinct musical identity.
Iwers and Engelin inevitably became permanent fixtures of the band.

Before recording 1994's Black Vanity, vocalist and guitarist Mathias Lodmalm dismissed the rest of the band, opting to produce the album on his own; the result pushed Cemetary further into the gothic realm.
The transformation into a gothic metal band was complete with the 1996 release of Sundown, which featured the new lineup of Lodmalm, Anders Iwers on guitar, Thomas Josefsson on bass, and Markus Nordberg behind the drums.
