Andersen AFB is in the village of Yigo, pronounced "Geego." There are plenty of recreational and travel opportunities which make Andersen a popular tour among the adventurous.
Andersen Air Force Base opened as North Field in 1944, and was primarily used as a B-29 staging base in the Pacific during WWII.
The wing, meanwhile, remained at Andersen AFB in an admini-strative and logistics capacity.

Andersen Air Force Base is a 20,000-acre site located in the city of Yigo on the northern end of the island of Guam.
Andersen would play a major part in the Vietnam conflict, when 27 B-52 bombers were launched from its runway June 18, 1965.
Andersen also played a key role in Operation Baby Lift, an element of New Life in which the U.S. evacuated 1,500 orphans from Vietnam and Thailand in April 1975.

Andersen AFB property overlies five of the six groundwater subbasins of the Northern Guam Lens Aquifer: Yigo, Andersen, Agafo Gumas, Finegayan, and Mangilao (see Figure 2).
Andersen AFB began monitoring groundwater in 1987 to characterize the distribution and concentrations of contaminants in groundwater associated with the base and its annexes: the Main Base, the Northwest Field, the MARBO Annex, and the Harmon Annex.
On-site workers at Andersen AFB are not, have not been, and will not be exposed to contaminated soils except as part of their normal work responsibilities and material handling.

Andersen Air Force Base (Andersen AFB) is made up of several parcels of land situated on the northern end of Guam, an unincorporated island territory of the United States.
Land use at Andersen AFB is mixed: about 50% of the land is open space; 35% supports base operations (including a 1,750-acre airfield, aircraft maintenance and industrial areas, and base housing); and the remaining 15% supports community, recreation, and administrative functions (Andersen AFB 1999a).
Andersen AFB is situated on a limestone plateau, bounded on the north, east, and west by steep cliffs rising 500 feet above sea level.

Senior Airman Cleofe Ugalde and several of her co-workers from the 15th Services Squadron in Hickam AFB, Hawaii, came to Andersen to assist the dining facility, which was short-manned due to deployments.
Airmen from multiple bases have teamed to repair Andersen AFB after Super Typhoon Pongsona ripped through the area Dec. 8 destroying many buildings on Guam and knocking out the island's power and telecommunications systems.
With the help, the dining facility was able to open its doors and provide hot meals to base residents who no longer had power to prepare hot meals for their families.

 Guam Memorial
The Arc Light Memorial at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, is dedicated to the 75 men who lost their lives flying B-52 missions against Communist forces in Vietnam between 18 June 1965 and 15 August 1973.
The Arc Light Memorial was originally conceived in late 1973 by Lt Gen George H. McKee, Eighth Air Force commander at the time and headquartered at Andersen AFB, as a memorial to Maj Gen William J. Crumm, an earlier Eighth Air Force commander, who was killed on 7 July 1967, flying an Arc Light mission.
Andersen flights ceased temporarily in August 1970 and bombers from Okinawa stopped permanently the following month, but the Guam-based headquarters continued to control Arc Light forces.

The wing moved to Carswell AFB, Texas on March 15, 1960 and soon took delivery on the new supersonic bombers and it's new KC-135 jet tankers.
One of its first duties was Category II and III evaluation of the hot new plane, which was made possible by the wing being assigned F-102 fighters, the only one that could even try to keep up the Hustler.
In April 1970, the wing was moved to Anderson AFB, Guam, where it took over the B-52s and KC-135 of the 3960th Strategic Wing.

Both Andersen Air Force Base in the north and Naval Base Guam in the south anticipate big growth within the next several years, capitalizing on Guam's prime strategic location, its pro-military population, and its status as a U.S. territory.
The Air Force anticipates investing $1 billion to $2 billion into Andersen AFB within the next five to 10 years, said Col. Steve Wolborsky, 36th AEW vice commander.
Another one of Andersen's primary attractions is its access to airspace -- an access that continues to shrink in the continental United States, Europe, South Korea and Japan, Colonel White said.

Andersen Air Force Base hosted tours of the base in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Guam's liberation from Japanese occupation.
They did a lot for Guam and, of course, Andersen wants to do something and this is the least that we can do to bring them out to Andersen.
Liberators were treated to lunch and then were taken out to visit a number of sites at Andersen.

The rest of the F-105Bs/Ds/Fs were immediately grounded after the Hamilton incident -- with one of the Thunderbird "B-models" stranded at McConnell AFB, Kansas, for two months after the California tragedy (it had already been en route to the Mobile Air Materiel Area at Brookley for tear-down and inspection).
By December 1966, all the 36th's Thuds had been ferried Stateside for combat crew training duties at McConnell AFB, Kansas, or on to warfighting glory in SEA after stateside refurbishment.
Close-by Spangdahlem AB was attached to the 36th TFW on 15 April 1969 (most of the 49th TFW had completed its move to Holloman AFB, New Mexico), and the 23rd TFS moved its flight operations to Spangdahlem.
