Andersen Air Force Base is a base of the United States Air Force on the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.
The base, located on the north end of the island approximately 15 miles (24 km) from the capital, Agana, is home to the Pacific Air Forces, 36th Wing.
Andersen Air Force Base traces its roots back to the early days of World War II when a forest area at the northern end of Guam was turned into what was then known as North Field.

The construction of an air force base on the east side of Tarrant Field was authorized after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and Tarrant Field Airdrome was assigned to the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command in July 1942.
The base was assigned to the newly formed Strategic Air Command in March 1946.
B-52s from Carswell were constantly in the air and deployed to SAC Reflex bases in Europe, Asia, and North Africa during the Cold War.

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Residents here felt the full force from one of nature’s most destructive forces Dec. 8 as Super Typhoon Pongsona released its fury.
The typhoon’s eye passed over Andersen in the late afternoon and took more than two hours to completely pass before the full force of Pongsona, pronounced similar to bong-son-wa, ripped through the base.
Among the buildings on base that experienced heavy damage were the hangars on the flightline.

I was at Andersen was working flightline the start of Linebacker II, 12 hour shifts lived in condemed Marine barracks NCS shuttled from there to the base by bus to work everyday, We then moved to tin city when compleated those were like ovens.
Raised an Air Force brat, my father's TOD was on Anderson Air Force Base, and although I was in my young childhood, the memories and experiences from living in Guam are still so vivid; I close my eyes and experience the memories as if they happened just yesterday.
