Anderson discovered that a large proportion of his firm’s output was going to Detroit, which was located 60 miles to the south of Port Huron.
Anderson was the firm’s president, Pungs, its treasurer and general manager, and William M. Locke, the firm’s secretary.
Anderson Carriage Co. was reorganized in 1911 into the Anderson Electric Car Co. who would produce both electric vehicles, horse-drawn carriages and automobile bodies simultaneously.

The Argo company advertised its 1912 model, a sporty low-slung electric vehicle, as “a woman’s car that any man is proud to drive.” The Anderson Electric Car Company invited men to purchase its Detroit model “for your bride-to­- be — or your bride of many Junes ago.
The electric’s circumscribed mobility seemed adequate to those who assumed that “the electric is the vehicle of the home,” adequate, that is, for homemakers who did not expect to take long trips, or frequent trips, or to get stuck in traffic jams.
Practically all the modern electric cars are arranged with special reference to their ease of control by women — that is, the controlling and reverse levers are (or should be) simple in operation and few in number, they work easily, and are so placed and arranged as not to catch and tear the dress.

Electric utilities with their central generating stations knew that operating efficiency and profits could be increased by load-leveling through the addition of suitable electrical load during off-peak hours.
The electric utilities criticized the vehicle manufacturers for not producing inexpensive electric cars, and the manufacturers alleged that the utilities were just not interested in establishing enough recharging stations.
After it became clear that early electric cars could not compete as touring vehicles, the manufacturers sought to redefine and reposition electrics as ideal town cars for use in relatively level built-up areas having good roads and adequate battery charging facilities.
