Andre' LaMothe: I have been thinking about this for years really; however the technology wasn't really available plus the alure of retro level tech to teach console design wouldn't make since 10 years ago.
Andre' LaMothe: Well, hardcore a few months, the XGS is really a lateral move from my consumer hand held product I was developing nanoGear which is just too much to manufacture, so I thought I would switch gears and do the XGameStation instead and I like working with hobbyiests more than normal consumers better.
Andre' LaMothe: I would love to see the whole world experience what I did in the 70's and 80's building computers and writing games in a time where it really meant something, and we all knew our "machines" inside and out.

However, until Lamothe gets around to finishing volume two, this is really nothing more than a "work in progress." Even as such, the reader had better be prepared to do some serious debugging on his or her own.
Lamothe decided to split his work into two volumes for this reason; instead of scrambling to squeeze information about game programming and cutting-edge 3D graphics programming into a mere 1000 pages, he decided to make one book on game programming and the other on 3D programming.
This is probably because Lamothe's decision to split the book into two volumes was made at the last minute; but still, SAMS could've at least taken the time to change the title of the book before sending it to press.

Also Andre seems to insist on using straight C instead of C++ which is kind of aggravating.
Andre graciously takes the bits and pieces from the demos and puts them in a library providing you with a "2D 8-bit/256 color back buffered DirectX engine that has support for any resolution, along with clipping to the primary display surface" (that's a quote).
Andre covers Algorithms and Data Structures, which, in my opinion, are what make or break a well designed piece of software.
