  Biography
Andrea del Castagno (originally Andrea di Bartolodi Bargilla), one of the most influential 15th-century Italian Renaissance painters, best known for the emotional power and naturalistic treatment of figures in his work.
Little is known of Castagno's early life, and it is also difficult to ascertain the stages of his artistic development owing to the loss of many of his paintings.
Castagno's emotionally expressive realism was strongly influenced by Donatello, and Castagno's work in turn influenced succeeding generations of Florentine and Paduan painters.

Andrea del Sarto completed his fresco masterpiece, the Last Supper, in 1527 in the Valambrosian convent of San Salvi, then outside the city walls.

Italian painter of the Florentine school, born sometime between 1390 and 1421 though probably toward the end of that period, probably at Castagno, in the district of Mugello, and died in August 1457.
His name was for about four centuries burdened with the heinous charge of murder; it was said that he treacherously assassinated his colleague, Domenico Veneziano, in order to monopolize the then recent secret of oil painting as practiced in Flanders by the Van Eycks.
This charge has, however, been proved to be an untruth; Domenico died four years after Andrea.
