		Kisser and guitarist/vocalist Max Cavalera took a break from mixing Roots to talk with Guitar Shop about the recording of the new album.
		Kisser relies on the Jackson Original Rhoads that has been his main instrument as Sepultura has evolved from standard-issue metallic thrash to more inventive - but still crushingly heavy - explorations.
		For Roots, Kisser loaded his Jackson with Seymour Duncan PAF pickups - something of an unusual choice for a band known for its metallic crunch.

		Guitarist Andreas Kisser described their version of Bauhaus' 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' as "completely different" and said they have "slowed it right down.
		The track 'Thilo' was written by Kisser on a classical guitar, while 'Who Must Die' tackles the issue of the death penalty.
		Kisser gets personal on 'Saga', which the band played live on the Tattoo The Earth tour last summer, and said it also relates to the struggle of humanity.

		The group’s initial steps may seem a little awkward in retrospect, but even their brusque 1986 recording, Morbid Visions, hinted at the raw diamond hiding underneath the album’s primitive sound, just waiting to be polished.
		Andreas Kisser, a classically trained guitarist of German ancestry, who took the place of his predecessor Jairo in 1988, played a key role in Sepultura’s remarkable progress.

		What I hear on Roorback though is a audio kick in the ass - politically-charged thrash mixed with hardcore, maybe a little too much on the hardcore side of things because I don't hear Andreas let loose on the fretboard for a good 20 minutes into the album.
		On the plus side, Igor Cavalera is everybit the drum hero utilizing a variety of creative fills and rhythms and an overall drum sound that is rich, clear, organic and seemingly free of triggers or click tracks (tools that are rapidly becoming standard in heavy metal - to my chagrin).
		I don't care what anyone says, if you sing your own stuff, especially given the sociopolitical slant displayed here, you're probably gonna put more into it than if you were singing the bass player's lyrics.

		TORONTO -- Details are still sketchy about why Jason Newsted left Metallica last month, but Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser has his own thoughts on the bassist's departure.
		"I understand the whole situation, because Jason was never really free to use his input musically or lyrically in the band," Kisser said this week during an interview for the upcoming Sepultura album "Nation" (due out March 20).
		According to Kisser, Newsted -- who collaborated with Sepultura on the song "Hatred Inside" for the latter's 1998 disc "Against" -- enjoyed working on outside projects.

		The brothers formed Sepultura in 1984 with Paulo Pinto and original guitarist Jairo T. After a couple of crude early releases (the Bestial Devastation EP and Morbid Visions album), Andreas replaced Jairo and the band kicked themselves to a new level of musicianship with the now classic Schizophrenia.
		When Sepultura announced that they were looking for a new vocalist, a Roadrunner A&R man sent them an Overfiend demo and told them to check it out.
		Once it was established that Green was "the man," the band commenced recording, laying down tracks in several different locations, including studios in Brazil and, for one memorable song, Japan.
