Thomas Barclay, first Episcopal minister of Albany, and Anna Drauyer, was born at Albany, N.Y. in the month of October, 1719, died in New York June 19th, 1775, and was buried in the family vault in Trinity.

Hunslet was established in 1840 and traded under the name of Andrew Barclay Sons & Co Ltd. Steam locomotives were their main product until 1928 at which stage the emphasis changed to diesel power and then in 1955 came the introduction of automatic transmissions.
With the consolidated strength of their two new acquisitions Andrew Barclay & Sons Co were able to develop the locomotive business and produce new innovative design concepts, which included the first heavy-duty axle mounted shaft drive gearbox.
Andrew Barclay & Sons Co commanded a strong market position, which was endorsed in 1985 through an order to develop and build 50 diesel passenger vehicles for British Rail.

Barclay joined the Civil Service in 1972 and became leader of the drugs and toxicology sections at the Birmingham forensic science laboratory where he was responsible for drug and poisoning homicides and for complex drug crimes.
Barclay is currently expanding the resources of the physical evidence section to include in house pathology, fingermarks, toxicology and the National Injuries database.

Barclay is now home and will present the plaque to Petr during a family day at his unit's base in Londonderry, N.H. Petr continues to collect donations of school supplies, soccer balls, and goodies for the troops, and is now sending them to three Acton residents serving in Iraq.

Barclay soon recovered from this set back and by 1859, when the company produced its first locomotive, the firm was employing 150 people.
In 1886 Andrew Barclay’s business was reconstructed as Andrew Barclay Sons and Co, but Barclays and Co was not revived.

Our two Barclay Locomotives last operated at an explosives works at Powfoot, Annan but had spent most of their working lives at ICI Explosives, Ardeer, Scotland.
In all, Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock supplied seven of this class of 2ft.
At that time, Barclay's locomotive production had fallen to very low levels and the four machines built for ICI in 1970 apparently accounted for two thirds of that years total.

Norwich coroner William Armstrong said the actions taken by staff after 20-year-old Andrew Barclay was found hanging from his window bars were "totally unacceptable" and he expressed his concern that too many people were dying in prison, at Norwich and elsewhere.
The two-day inquest at City Hall heard that Mr Barclay, from Southend, had been sentenced to 12 months for indecent assault and had spoken in letters from prison about his feelings of depression and inability to cope.
John Barclay was one of a number of people who gave evidence to the parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights two years ago during an inquiry into prison deaths.

A jury returned a verdict of suicide at an inquest on Andrew Barclay, of Southend, Essex, who hanged himself after two months in the prison.
Barclay was found dead in his cell at the remand centre in April 2003.
The inquest also heard from fellow prisoners that Barclay told them he could not cope with prison life and that he missed his family and friends.

Andrew Barclay was the major British builder of Fireless locomotives and during the years 1910-1961 produced 114 of these machines, more than all the other British builders put together.
It was also Orenstein and Koppel who introduced the fireless principle to Great Britain when in 1907 their Drewitz plant built an 0-4-0 for Empire Paper Mills, Greenhithe, Kent.
The first successful British machine did not come until 1913 when Andrew Barclay delivered No. 1207 to the Admiralty Explosives Depot, Bedenham, Hampshire.

While Gen. Spurling is a resident of Chicago he is a native of Maine and for a number of years was conspicuous in the affairs of the Pine Tree State.

Thomas Grant, the Barclay Works manager, bought up a small engineering business in Kilmarnock and together with William Ritchie, another Barclay employee set up in business togetherand started building Steam locos just down the road from the Andrew Barclay works.
It is said that Messrs Grant and Ritchie were seen leaving Barclay’s works late one night with large bundles of locomotive drawings, and this could be true as Grant Ritchie produced locos very similar to the products of Andrew Barclay.
November 1969, where it was to be joined over the years by a further ten Industrial steam locos, ironically including No6 Andrew Barclay No 2261, which is currently being restored at Preston.
