History of the Beveridge Family   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Henry was a coal miner, and this may well have been the occupation of both his and Janet's families, men, women and children, for generations, as until 1799 the coal miners of Scotland were in serfdom to the colliery owners and by law could not leave their occupation without permission.
Henry and Janet's first known child, David, was born in 1795, and while staying in Halbeath, they had at least two more children, Andrew in 1797 and Elizabeth, or Betty, in 1799.
Henry was born in Burnturk in 1814, and a few years later he was taken with the family to Stevenston.
