Andrew’s admission to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court in April 1983, was moved by his mother, Joan (a barrister).
Andrew was called to the Bar in March 1985.< He signed the roll of Counsel in May 1985 and practiced as a member of the Victorian Bar until his election to the Victorian State Parliament in September 1999.
Andrew was briefed by an Aboriginal Corporation who had filed a Native Title Claim with the Federal Court and were exercising their statutory right to negotiate with a large Australian mining company proposing a large mine.

Andrew McIntosh was found hanging in his cell at Aberdeen’s Craiginches prison, shortly before was scheduled to appear at the city’s sheriff court on firearms charges.
McIntosh, 49, was jailed for 12 years at the High Court in Aberdeen in December 1993, after being convicted of being the tartan terrorist commander behind a ruthless letter-bomb and bomb-hoax campaign in Scotland and England.
McIntosh was further convicted of illegally possessing a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a sawn-off shotgun and a pistol as part of a lethal arsenal of weapons and ammunition - including CS riot gas cartridges - that was recovered at his home in George Street, Aberdeen.

Dr Andrew McIntosh, from the School of Safety Sciences at UNSW, after completing a two-year study of head injuries in football and headgear performance, has called for an international performance standard for soft headgear.
Dr McIntosh said the combination of headgear and upper body and arm padding worn by all players might help reduce the risk of concussion and upper limb injuries as well.
Dr McIntosh said a survey of attitudes indicated that players wore headgear because they felt safer and to avoid injury, so providing protective headgear was a desirable goal.
