  Andrew Oliver
OLIVER, Andrew, lieutenant-governor of Massachusetts, born in Boston, Massachusetts, 28 March, 1706; died there, 3 March, 1774.
Oliver was the only judge that refused, in March, 1774, to accept the pay that had been voted by the legislature in lieu of a fixed salary of £400 from the crown.
Oliver was a man of varied erudition, familiar with French and German, as well as the classical languages.

Andrew Oliver (1706-1774) was the man commissioned to enforce the stamp act in Massachusetts.
However Oliver was forced to resign after repeated violence from the colonists in Boston - an effigy of him was hung up at the future Liberty Tree on August 14, 1765 by Boston's "Loyal Nine" and that night his Boston house was destroyed by the mob.
He was brother of Massachusetts Justice Peter Oliver and nephew of Governor Jonathan Belcher.
