Academician Andrey P. Ershov (19 April 1931 - 8 December 1988) was one of the early Soviet pioneers in the field of theoretical and systems programming, a founder of the Siberian School of Computer Science.
Ershov's book "A Programming Programme for the BESM Computer" was one of the world's first monographs on automatic programming.
For major contributions in the theory of mixed computation he was awarded the Academician A.N.Krylov Prize: it was the first time that a programmer received the most prestigious mathematical award of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Yuri L. Ershov is Editor in Chief of the Siberian Mathematics Journal and an editor of the Russian journal Algebra y Logika (Algebra and Logic).

We started organizing this trip one year ago and after 30 faxes and 2 telephone calls we reached Moscow where we stayed for one day before travelling to the city of Mineralnye Vody in the Caucasus region.
Andrey explained us how big the region was and the surroundings of Mount Elbrus were not included in the fights.
We based in the village of Terskol in the Baksan Valley and had some climbs in the area (Mt. Cheget, Mt. Viatau, and Mt. Gumachi) for acclimatization.
