Andy Hardy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andy Hardy was a fictional character played by Mickey Rooney in an extremely successful series of films, produced by MGM, over a period of 10 years from 1937 to 1947.
Mickey Rooney grew up with the film series, which ended with Love Laughs at Andy Hardy which had Hardy returning to civilian life after fighting in World War II.
An attempt at reviving the series with an older, wiser Andy was made in 1958 with Andy Hardy Comes Home, but a new series failed to emerge.

The amount of grace one is able to extend to Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938) and the 14 other films in the series is directly related to personal tolerance for Mickey Rooney.
Rooney even manages to spoil otherwise decent ensemble pieces with his scene-chewing and stealing antics — although it must be admitted that most of these intrusions are not jaw-droppingly racist like his wretched turn in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
The most interesting aspect of the films is their direct inspiration of the much longer-lived "Archie" comics, and if you've read a few, you already know the plot of this (and every other) entry.

MGM made a series of films about Judge Hardy and his family, a series that the studio felt exemplified family life of the late '30s and early 1940s.
This comic ideal made the young Mickey Rooney, the Andy Hardy of the series, the biggest box office star in movies for much of the early '40s.
The regulars in the series were Rooney as Andy Hardy, Lewis Stone as Judge Hardy, Fay Holden as Mother Hardy, Sara Haden as Aunt Millie, Cecilia Parker as Marian (Andy's older sister), and Ann Rutherford as Andy's girl Polly.

Andy Hardy - After the success of A Family Affair (1937), which introduced the Hardy clan of Carvel, MGM's Louis B. Mayer launched the Andy Hardy series–with a few tweaks.
In the 1937 film, Lionel Barrymore played flinty Judge Hardy, and Mickey Rooney, the judge's son, was only a minor player.
The sentimental series perfectly captured the sensibility of the late 1930s and '40s, with Andy's red-blooded interest in girls-next-door (including Ann Rutherford as Andy's ever-patient girlfriend, Polly Benedict), and his sister, Marian (Cecilia Parker), likewise interested in boys.
