Richter tries to be the king of almost cool nerds, but you know he's the type of guy who played with action figures till he was 25, then somehow found fame.
And the one where Andy was accused of being racist b/c he insulted his African-American coworker's Irish heritage, and the whole office had to go to sensitivity training, and then he started dating the guy's sister, and they feared people would have a problem with their relationship b/c they both hated Riverdance.
Andy was the average joe, the underdog, the guy on the street, who everyone identified with.

The problem with Fox's "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" is that he doesn't.
Like the puppies with which Richter frolics in more than one of his Walter Mitty-esque daydreams, it all but dares you not to love it and, with requisite crinkled nose, note just how adorable it is. If only we haven't seen so many of the tricks in its bag before.

Of all the new sitcoms to come along this year, it was perhaps Andy Richter Controls the Universe for which I held out the least hope of success.
Andy Richter Controls the Universe, is actually quite a funny and delightful show.
The Andy Richter show isn’t perfect — I would scale back the fantasy sequences by maybe 10%, for example — but the production values are great, there’s a good solid cast, and, perhaps most surprisingly, Richter himself carries the show well.

Andy Richter, who you probably know as Conan O'Brien's former sidekick, has finally gotten his own TV show - "Andy Richter Controls The Universe", and while it isn't exactly as good as a comedy like The Drew Carrey Show, it certainly takes a page from that book and runs with it.

 Richter's very likable universe
For people who never got Andy Richter as the sidekick on Conan O'Brien's late-night talk show, or for those who have never heard of him, the fact that he anchors one very funny new sitcom may come as a shocker.
Richter's new comedy is one of those dicey propositions that happens when someone says, "Can't we do something different?" People might not be ready for the quirky, even gimmicky nature of the series, because it doesn't flow like your normal 22-minute laugher.
This ultimately means Richter controls his own fate as well, since Fox could have a huge hit on its hands with this midseason star.
